I bought a 27" monitor to compensate for my lack o
OPEC just cut a deal w/ Iran or Iraq cant remember which but they agreed to start produceing 20 Million more barrels of oil then they currently are. This will take place starting in June but may take a bit longer for it to effect us here in the US.

dude i wish the price of 93 would drop down to $2.00!...its around $2.30 give or take $.05.....i hope it gets better

The main problem is U.S refinaries. We get most our oil from Venezula, Canada and other places, but U.S. refinaries are becoming less and less so it's harder to refine the oil. The U.S actually imports gas that has already been refined because they can't do it all themselves.

Raising the price of gas by the government would not be a way to improve the economy. In fact just the opposite. By having higer gas prices trucks that ship the products we buy have to spend more on fuel. Then that extra cost is pushed onto the consumer by increasing the price of goods. Has anyone noticed that the price of food has gone up at the grocery store. It has.

In my little corner of Texas, we normally see higher prices than places around us, but it just now hit $2.02 for 93 here. I am thankful.

You are right in a general sense. It's not that the refinery is the problem, or that there are "less" refineries in the country. There just haven't been any built since 1979 (edit:in Gary, Indiana). My uncle is actually in the process of trying to build one in Az. Now, the reason there haven't been any built in over 20 years is because of corrupt gov. agencies (see "greenie" environmentalists), and a misinformed public (who takes everything the said agencies spew as holy doctrine). I have had the privilege of seeing this first hand, and it is truly surprising, just what a few corrupt people in important positions can influence. My uncle began his project in the early 90's, and there still isn't even broken ground. The policies, regulations, testing, permits, ect. are all ever-changing sometimes as rapidly as on a weekly basis. One can imagine how this affects specifically engineered equipment (and its use) as one of numerous examples of how they stall things. I could go on for pages (did a 19 page paper in school), and it's pretty interesting, but you guys don't want to read it
Oh, and rumors in the industry are $3/gallon before we start to see a drop...lets hope it's only gossip.

One of my neighbors works for a refinery. He said a lot of the cost increases (not just the recent one but even those from before) are due to environment friendly rules they have to put up with. Each city, each county, each state has its own rules. Like they can't just refine one type of gas for everyone. They have to do it differently for each city/state. Hence, production costs shoot up.

He was right. For example here in Az we have an avg. gas price in the top five in the country. The primary reason for this is because in Maricopa and Pima Counties (has the big cities such as Phoenix, Scottsdale, Mesa ect.) reformulated gas is required. These have the specific additives of either ethanol or MTBE (determined by the time of year). This is much more expensive compared to a fuel without any additives. The primary increase in costs is due to the refinery having to change things on equipment to accomodate different mixtures. Usually there is still a shutdown in order to do this, lowering production, pissing off the public who watches the news that says the govt. is blaming the refineries and the "oil industry." HMM... maybe they should point there finger somewhere else...No the refinery should spend millions to add equipment and be prepared, so there is no stoppage in production. Meanwhile, a new lower regulation for benzene has been issued, so first spend millions to "update" equipment for the new regs. This is a continuous cycle, and why there cannot be a substantial increase in production. Yet, there is always a higher demand=higher prices.
well its not bad here its like 1.80 cents a gal but its gay i use to only pay 1.49 a gal for prem.
