As usual, I spent my Friday night "out on the town" with my girlfriend and about 10 of my buddies and their girlfriends. My buddies apartment was closest to where we ended up, so we all decided to crash at his place. We are walking up to the stairs of his apartment at 2:45 in the morning when my cell phone rings. It's my Mom. After going to a few parties, I was in no shape to be talking to my Mother, so I decided to let it go to my voicemail. I listened to it right after she sent it. "JOEY, YOU NEED TO CALL ME BACK. YOU HAVE A SLIGHT PROBLEM!" I'm thinking "Oh christ, what does she want?" I have the typical over-reactive Italian mother so I could only imagine. I thought she broke a fingernail or something.

I call her back to find out that my dorm room caught on fire...?

Me and a few others (those who haven't already passed out) walk back to my room to see what's up....

As a side note, I applied for a single dorm room in the housing papers I filled out this summer. I didn't get it for whatever reason and went into the "random-pick"-pool and ended up with the biggest IDIOT for a roommate that anyone could imagine. When I first met the kid, he didn't even introduce himself to me before he asked me "got any pot?"

With that said, I go back to my room to find 3 inches of water on the floor and my bed almost completely burnt to nothing, a melted TV and about 300 bucks of burnt clothes. After smelling pot in the room, they (cops and firefighters) searched the entire room (mine and his belongings) to find all kinds of drugs in his drawers and possessions that he denies. They asked if I would take a drug test to completely dismiss me as the cause of the fire, and would in a way "grandfather" me away from being charged with drug possession. I agreed completely and took the test. Everything is cool.

The POLICE helped me move all my stuff into my new room (!!), by myself (!!), at 4 AM this morning. We finished at about 6:30 this morning. When I was walking out to get the last bit out of his car, he asked me with a smile on his face "so, where was the party tonight?" I stood there for about 10 seconds in disbelief and shock. I basically looked like a slobbering idiot. He was very cool.

Aftering waking up at about 8 PM today, having nothing to do, and feeling quite energized, I'm sitting here reflecting, thinking, "WHAT IN THE HELL?!" Why me? LOL

I guess I have no real point in this thread. Just me thinking out loud...:D

New room with no idiot roommate, where's the downside? Well, aside from the destroyed stuff.

Back in early 2002, I had to take a dorm at my school but I didn't want to stay there. So, I decided to take a room with an old friend that was going there so I could "ghost." Turns out that there was a big fire a year or so before and a guy DIED in that room!

My buddy decided to let his girlfriend move in, so you can imagine the uncomfortable moment when they went with me to the room to "assess" it's condition at the end of the year. It didn't look too savory with the beds pushed together and some other junk.

Damn that sucks! I was wondering why I didn't see you today... now I know why. Glad you are OK though!
You know Paul, one of my friends who LOVES Mustangs and he called me at about 10 AM yesterday morning after I had been asleep for about 2 hours and said "Hey are we going to Cecil to see that guy you were telling me about?" I was like "what do you think?" He was more mad than I was!

I guess you didn't get any from the GF last night huh?

So where are you gonna stay now?
Yeah right! She wouldn't come with me when I heard that my dorm caught on fire. She was "too tired". If I would have done that though, I wouldn't have heard the end of it. She didn't get any from ME, last night.

I'm still living on campus, but I've got a new room. A single. By myself. Exactly how I want it. You know, because I'm such a hermit and everything. :D

I know when I moved away my mom insured things like my laptop, my refridgerator, etc., but I don't know if clothing can be or if it was insured. My mom apparently talked to his mom about the whole situation yesterday and I was asked by the police early this morning to go to the cop shop at 2 PM today to file an "official report." After that, I'm going home (to get dinner) and I'll find out much more.

It could have been worse, just always remember that. You could have gotten a phone call saying that not only had your dorm room had gone up like a roman candle, but that the building then fell over and crushed your car, causing the fuel tank to explode, which set off a gas line under the city, which incinerated everything around your car for a half mile radius. Anyway....sucks your stuff went up like that. Ill admit to some "experimentation" before but ive never burned buildings down. There was that one time i had the paintball gun....in a cow field....drunk off my ass in the passenger seat of my buddies STi....yeah who would have though they would not only get mad about shooting cows in the ass with paint, but leaving tracks in the field. Hope you get it all sorted out.

It could have been worse, he could have totaled your car!

No, no.

My car sits in a heated garage under a 250 dollar California car cover. The car cover is more comfortable than my bed is. :D

After going home last night, I find out from my Mom that my ex-roommate had denied all involvement in burning the room up. Of course, he has one of those mothers that takes his word for gospel. I don't know what's coming now. He failed to take the drug test too. Imagine that....

Because I pretty much got randomly placed into a different dorm building, I'm on a floor with a whole bunch of chicks. Sweet! As far as I'm concerned, this is a blessing.... :D
