i know a few of you guys ride at the dunes on a regular basis. im mainly referring to sand lake with this question.

im wondering how strict they are about bike inspection? do they db test your exhaust? i just put a slip-on on my raptor, and its not going to be under 92 db or whatever the standard is lol.

is there anything else we should know/plan on before heading down? never been to the dunes yet, just going to be out on stock tires at 2 psi for now.

thanks

I've never been tested or seen anyone being tested or even seen the db sherrif lol, I've heard that the db sherrifs tend to be out on the big weekends. I wouldnt worry about it. wich slip on did you go with?

bought a bunch of stuff for it actually, but its a two brothers slip-on.

thanks for the info. guys at yamaha today told me they always see the db sheriff? guess ill pack the stock slip-on just incase.

I did that the first few trips down there... I dunno about the two brothers, but my dr. d pipe has a quiet insert that I can put in if need be. either way I dont think you'll have a problem, my bud has an lrd race pipe on his yfz wich is way over 100 db's and he's never been tested and he rides all up and down the oregon coast on allmost every weekend.

I see him quite often to be honest. He flies around down there and will catch bikes he thinks are too loud. Best thing to do is, shut the bike off as soon as you seen him. Always keep your eye out for him though. He wonders down into the big bowl and will watch. Just wait him out or putt off without revering too high. I have not been tested, but I am certainly above the 92 db which I believe more then 90% of the bikes are. Flag and helmet for those under 18 yrs old are required and will draw an automatic ticket no matter what.

wtf does the guy even look like? lol I swear I've never seen him and I'm there quite often

cool, thanks. i already bought a quiet insert for my two bros. pipe today. it will be in before i go down, and its rated at 94 db with it in or something.

i have been told they test every bike as your coming in though. i guess ill have to see, but with the bike being right at the db rating (2 over?) i should be ok..

i always wear a helmet and ill purchase a flag also, im over 18 though for the age restriction thing.

They certainly dont check when your coming. Unless its one of the major holidays during the summer, Labor, Memorial and the 4th of July which they may check then, but I am not sure. You will have a good time. The 700R is a nice comfortable ride. Jumps pretty good as well.:nice:

He drives the Sheriff Truck. I have seen two different guys which they probably share the truck and work opposite shifts. They are there at least once a day and sometimes more. I just shut the trike off and chill when I see him come down to the bowl. He loves the 4 stoke guys:D

ah... I see the sherrifs trucks everytime I'm down there, but I've only seen em chacing down people speeding on the beach and checking out campgrounds  maybe its because I spend most of my time doing tree shots and riding trails?

We saw him last time we were down there. He is looking for flags and off road stickers on ANYTHING that is on the sand. Including anything parked off the pavement! They have a huge hard on about the sticker thing this year. I have never seen him write so many tickets. He sat just outside the parking lots and chased down everything coming on the sand. He even came around to us camped at the tree line and checked our vehicles. My 4 cylinder mustang now has an off road sticker on the back window as does wallys escort. That was just to park out at the tree line. Wallys buddy got a ticket that weekend just because tow rig had an expired sticker.

I'm a beleiver in helmets. I was 2 months old my dad was going to lunch from work one day. He was stoped at a light thought hum i should put the helmet on? Light turned green he goes whammmmmmmm truck hit him that had ran the red. Ended up loosing his leg got 300 stiches in his chin and in order to take off his helmet that he just straped on all they did was undo the chin strap! Split it in 1/2! In ohio it was and is still optional to wear a helmet :nonono:. peace
