Ouch, dragstrip carnage

ah, makes sense now Ron. i also know Karl. i'm terrible with names and faces.

mustangdave, it's possible. but seeing as it broke on the line and the car was pushed everywhere else i'm wondering how much damage i could have done by rotating the assembly... can't rule anything out though.

We can disassemble the locking unit itselt Jeff and it won't take too long to determine it's health. If it is a detroit locker then I doubt it is trashec but if it is a clutch type locking unit it may have some contamination in which case we can just order the rebuild kit and freshen it up.

well, everything was broke. the posi unit was trashed really good. only thing salvageable was the ring gear, yoke, and pinion support. i've got some pictures i'll post eventually.

ended up getting a center section w/ 4.11s, detroit/US gear posi, and 31 splines for $470. not the best deal, but was exactly what i wanted and was significantly less that a new Currie unit!!

Ron, thanks for the offer for help. I spied this part on ebay and since it was in Houston, couldn't really pass it up. thanks!

BAD news. took the center section to a performance shop here in town. evidentally EVERYTHING is trashed except for the gear set itself... I haven't actually looked at the parts myself, but needless to say I'm pretty ticked.

since when does a 400HP car with 20k miles (150 drag strip passes and never had a 60ft faster than a 1.90) blow up a 9" rear end? i mean seriously! and it's not like it's a stock 3rd member either, it's from Currie, supposedly the best in the business!!! I have yet to call them, but I hope they are going to do something for me cause I expect a lot more out of a $900 center section!

Well, you didn't actually blow the rearend. Those axles took care of that for you. I've told people in hear a few times about those axles. They always seem to break were the heat treating is at.

Com'on man. How long did you expect stock axles to live behind 4k drops from 400 hp ?
