Just got back from Beaverton Ford.

Nice car and even the sales people were pretty nice about us looking at it - at first. But then the sales manager came out, locked the door on us and went outside to chew out the sales people for letting us look at the car!! What a ... jerk!!

Anyway, just had to vent. I'll never buy from that dealership as this isn't the first time I've been treated like crap there...
I got dicked around a bit after I bought my car from there. It has kinda left a sour taste in my mouth, and I won't go back there. I am thankful that I was able to get started with my first ever car purchase, but they could have been more tactful in getting me a better deal. Since I was in desperation, I took what I could but will not be returning. I went to Landmark on Friday and almost left the lot with a 2003 GT in Redfire, but the salesman told me that I would take too much negative equity on my car, that he didn't want me to eat it on the deal , and to come back in about 6-12 months. He said my credit is taking shape well, that I have done a damn good job on making my payments on time, and that he would be able to hook me up when the time was right. I know I could have left the dealership with the car, but I would have gotten screwed and I have to give props to him for being upfront with me.

I will be returning to Landmark when the time comes to buy another Mustang, and I will be taking my current car to have it serviced when needed because I had a great experience there. I would service my car myself if the management for my apartment complex weren't filled with Nazis

And what the FOCK is a C series vette???

C6 sound familiar? How about C5? C4? Go on? Right now theres a C6 and a Z06. Generally, if its not a C series, its a Z06, or vice versa (in the last 2 years, atleast). Sorry if I confused you.

Since when is a corvette a muscle car?

Im sorry, I should have said sports car. Is that OK?

If you think that your going to get into a new Z06 for anything less then $70-80k you are sadly mistaken. Most of the dealerships have been marking them up $30-40k and they even with doing that they can't keep them on the lot.

Just about any auto maker now days that has anything even remotely performance oriented is doing the same thing and taking HUGE advantages of the stupid who will buy it right off the lot because they just have to have it when if they would have waited 6 months to a year they would not have gotten taken analy like they did right off the lot.

It's a very sweet and menacing looking car that's for sure.

As much as I hate to take Paul's side on anything ... the confusion seems to be on your part, not his .

AFAIK, C likely means "Corvette". The 1/2/3/4/5/6 is the generation. The designation "Z06" is a package, kinda like Z51 only it has become a lot more involved (and the C6 Z06 is basically a different car than the "regular" C6). You can think of it like a model. There is a C5 Z06, and a C6 Z06. The sixth generation (C6) Vette has been out since 2005MY.

For your reading pleasure, Wikipedia has an article on the Corvette with some details on the various generations.

I looked at the C part of it as the base model for the generations, with the Z06 and the like being a higher model. I realize C probably stands for Corvette, but if the numbers were just the generation, and since we're already talking about a Corvette, wouldnt the C go withoutsaying? Wouldnt we say a 6 Corvette? Or 5 Corvette? We approach things different, and from the way I saw it is, it wasnt confusing.

If we are not going to call a base model Corvette a C6, what are we going to call it?

In Ohio my uncle just purchased his Z06 (Yellow) at $64.5k plus tax and also received a $1500 gas card. Either way no car these days hold value. Nobody sees the new Z06 or Shelby or GT40 to be worth original sticker in 10 years. Of matter fact my auction magazines are trying to make sure they are not even part of the Sports Car, Muscle Car market by not even going to value them. Nice cars for the person who only knows how to pump gas into a car but if you want to enjoy a car you just can't beat the 03-04 Cobra or a late model Camaro SS or C5 Z06.

We call them base C6's. There are different option levels above the base C6. Some being "1LT", "2LT", "3LT", "Z51", and "Z06". The 1, 2, and 3 are trim level packages. The Z51 and Z06 are preformance packages. The Z51 and Z06 came from RPO codes or build codes.

I would imagine that it is C6 and not just 6 is because it would sound confusing to refer to a 6 Corvette.

everybody is complaining because the Shelby is painfully overpriced, and at that price level, you can find better cars. It makes ford look bad to the know nothing consumer, like they can't easily pull off a good sports car. Fords fragmentation of SVT hurts Ford's performance image, and the dull lineup of normal cars will put Ford further into the red. It frustrates all of us.

The terminator was a great car because it was fast, and it was cheap, not only that, but there was a ****load of them made, so everybody see's one at the gas station, hears a story, etc. We gotta see the shelby around, and for that price and limited availability, you're only gonna find the types that do "bumper bra" mods, and chat on the forums about which wax is better, etc. and you'll hear a lot of "sorry guys, looks like it's gonna rain, I dont drive her in the rain, so I won't see you at the meet, or I'll bring my ranger instead" Why even make the car, or buy it for that matter? If you were the type who wants to keep it pristine as a collector, you damn well better be concerned about resale.

I think that's why we're bitchin about the new shelby.

The GT500 is set for higher production numbers than the 03-04' Cobras, from what Ford is quoting around 7k per year for the next 3 years. The 03/04's had a total prod of like 16k between the 2 years (12k,4k). The dealers are going to learn really quick after about a year of how supply and demand works out of their favor sometimes. Same thing happened with the Terminators- how many of them were sitting on the lots at the end of production and they were gouging them 5-10k over.

Why anyone would even consider spending 70k on the car is retarded, when you could just as easily buy a C6(reg with lots of mods or a Z06) or even put you in position to buy a Viper at that price range.

First of all your right about the supply and demand thing - thats why the dealers are gouging everyone they can for as much as they can. In California these cars are selling for as much as 100K!

As far as being able to buy a Chevy or Dodge for the money, most Ford guys won't buy a Chevy or a Dodge!

I stopped by Damerow today to take a look at the GT500. Not a bad car. Asking price is a bitch though. I saw a Hertz edition the other day at the historic races. If you could be able to rent one of those for a day, that would be cool. After the 30k mile "break-in" period the rental car companies allow before selling them, the resale wouldn't depreciate, it would be a lot closer to the price of the GT500 or Saleen Extreme.

As far as money to power ratio, the Terminator and the GTO are the way to go. Wait a minute, did I just mention a GM product? Somebody pull the trigger.

So you missed the initial surge of dealers asking minimum of $10k over on the 03's? I tlaked to a guy at the dealership who bought his at $15k over MSRp just to be the first one to own it.

Me too! Other than building a drag notch at some point, my next car will be a step up from the mustang and will not be a ford. I have no problem with crossing over to GM, Dodge, Toyota, etc. I appreciate it all!

Thats way Too much for the car. Close to the same prices I have seen for Blown saleen at a couple of dealerships up north.
IMO its okay - I like the new body style I own one, but to be truthful I dont see anything that spectacular about it. They should have done more to the body style . I think the 03-04 cobras look better....

sure dude, no argument there.
if there is going to be more GT500's than terminators, then, I'm all for it. belive me, I want to see ford excel more than anybody... But I just dont' see it, not that I'm not open to it, but as a matter of feasibility, I see it as unlikely. And back to my point as to why people see the Z06 as a better purchase, well, with chevy (I know the word is blasphemy), they removed about 100 moving parts between the C4 and the C5, this made it lighter, quieter, and more rigid, sort of like how the '94 reflected the '93 cobra "r" in the mustang production level. In the end, why pay more for a car that barely meets corvette standards? well, as a road racer, why try to meet vette standards when they(chevorlet) are busy trying to beat porsche cup car standards? We need a more potent motor that sits deeper in the crossmember, we need someone like ackerman doing the front geometry, and we need someone that will be able to set corner weights in both static and dynamic situations to make our beloved mustangs behave like they are pedigrees.... regardless of their humble beginnings..

can you guys dig?
