No one has said this, but yes, advance your timing to 14 degrees and listen for a ping. I wouldnt go much past that, make sure youre running premium. Do the standard tune up ****, and grab a 100 shot and destroy him.

Edit: Drop the front fog light and entire assembly, spare tire, back seats and tire jack. That is around 100 lbs savings as well. Drop as much weight as possible and he shouldnt be able to tell.

i would run just like it is now and see where you are then plan what mods you think it will take to beat him (if you dont get him this time). im not a NOS guy but it would be a quick way to put him in the rear view.

The nitrous setup makes no sense, it's a short term solution to a long term problem.
Buy an explorer gt40 head setup and add an e cam.
Will cost the same as a good nitrous kit (maybe less).

Besides, even if you win with nitrous most people will still put an asterisk next to it in their minds.
Not saying that's right or wrong, just saying it happens.

With the power level evened out a little (he'll still have more power) he won't be able to run you down in a 1/4 mile race.

You are probably at like 235rwhp now, and could get yourself to like 265rwhp with explorer heads and an e cam.

you should beat him to 60mph after that it might me close, my wife 09 accord 271hp v-6 i can keep right with her in my all stock 86gt, after 60 she gose by me, her accord is around 300 pounds more then mine, with your mods i bet it will take him.

My point was why spend money on temporary hp, when you can spend it on power you can have forever.
Might as well have fun all the time.

I had a nitrous setup, it sucked, expensive to fill so you can't just be screwing around all the time.

Accord will be alot heavier than a mkII golf.

I'd like to see the race though. At least its not a VR6T then youd be getting spanked hard.

Man, you've gotta be sneakier than that! sheez. Winning a race is about just that. WINNING. IT don't matter how, as long as you win. spend a couple hundred bucks on a nitrous kit used,put in in by yourself one night, get some old slicks and bust that azz! Run him once or twice, hand it to him and talk s**t! Let him and everyone else wonder what the hell happened.

Alot of these little cars aren't quite as light as one might think. Foxes are light by today's standards, and can be made very, very light. Yes, the older importss were, such as the old series of civics and such. Torque and traction are your freinds. You jump a bus length or two out of the hole it's a long game of catchup and 280fwhp is going to need at least full 1/4 mile to make up for it. If all you're doing to win races is working on the engine, you're not going to get very far but you'll spend a fortune getting there.

Since we don't have the actual year, did a little research on the 1995 and the Golf base model weighed just a hair under 2600lbs, but the more loaded models came closer to 2700lbs. Hardly a featherweight.

He said 1st and 2nd gear is nearly useless due to traction, and has a t3/t4 .60 trim turbo.

He has a ABA bottom end, with a 16v DOHC head. 8.3:1 comp. 14psi

Im going to see if anyone I know has a nitrous kit i can just use for that night (at the track).

I'll throw a 100 shot at my car and see what happens, and not tell him. Muhaha

Being sneaky was how any experienced racer would roll. I worked in a machine shop and I lost count of the fogger nozzles I put on the bottom side of intake manifolds. We even took the spray bar out of an nos cheater plate and put it in one of those old 2" carb spacers. Hid the tubing with wire loom and put the solenoids under the car....

Then all you'd need is some dumdum with a volkswagen and some money

I have a bud that went out and bought 2 or 3 big cylinders and a rack, scale, etc.for filling bottles. The big cylinders cost $100 to exchange at airgas supply. we'd just pitch in and pay for an exchange.it's not bad...

Now, a speed shop might be different....

run what you brung and hope it's enough. If it's not accept what happened and give credit where it's due. It's the racer's job to figure out what his opponent has. I know how to look and how to tell. Isn't it damn funny how the spare tire compartment on an F body so perfectly fits a nitrous bottle? lol My buddy runs one bracket and lines in his trunk but you'll never see a bottle there, as those lines are not even going to the front of there car. He'll say, "see, no bottle" but yet he still sprays the bejebus out of them.

All I know is that VW has a ton of work done to it, lots of money on a VW, it better win easily. If not, it's an example. All I know is a built bottom to top engine on a fox with a couple turbos would make quick work of any VW.

It was these import guys that invented roll racing, because they are too much of sissy punks to learn how to build a suspension. All they do is watch tv and read magazines and put parts on their engines and hope that's enough.
