I have an 89 GT... It's been sitting for 3 years... Just put in a new Tranny and got her runnin... She won't keep a charge and seems to be over charging... I Put a New Battery in... Seemed to be doin just fine at first... Then she was dead this morning... after driving for a while she would restart but after sitting for a few hours DEAD again... And the AMP Lt started comming on and over charging... I'm thinking bad alternater... Help a brother out here PLEASE.

Before jumping to conclusions, charge the battery with a charger and check the voltage. Let it sit for a day or so, and test it again and see where the voltage is at

have you tested the system to see if it is overcharging? Or are you just guessing? I would imagine either way it is an alternator problem.

I had the same thing happen to me when I first got my stang... anyway it was the alternator. Take it out and have it tested at a parts store, I'll bet the regulator is bad.

If it is a bad alternator, now would be a good time to do a 3G alternator upgrade also

What;s the voltage output from the alt??

Also, if the battery is dead the next morning, it could be junk as well. Was the battery sitting 3 years as well?? If so, almost garanteed you need a new one
