I have a 2005 Mustang GT, yesterday my temp gauge started to read hot (needle on the H). I pulled over and it didn't seem to be any hotter then normal and no overflow of coolant. I drove the car home with the heat blowing, later that evening took it out again and temp read normal. This morning drove to work and it reads normal all the way in. Left work and it was in between normal and hot, again no visual indication it was over heating, cooling fan is also functioning.

The upper rad hose feels very hot but the lower doesn't seem to be as hot. I picked up a thermostat but didn't install it yet, hoping to get some feed back from the pro's...

Thanks,

Tom

I'm not a mechanic or anything, but your description doesnt make me think thermostat.... If your upper radiator hose is very hot and the lower one is cooler it indicates the thermostat is open and hot coolant is flowing from the engine to radiator, cooling, and exiting thru lower hose.

the issue could be your water pump, radiator, or a fault in temp guage...
