hey guys this is the first time ive posted in a while my car has been down for over a month i ripped out the motor and rebuilt it the car is fairly stock it has stock heads and cam and is not bored only mods are minor bolt on s the rebuild went smooth and i got the motor back in a few days a go and it fired right up no problems....the only thing i did differntly putting the car back together is i added a set of mac equal lenght shorty headers.. they came off a 93 fox and my car is a 94 so they had no egr. i blocked the egr on the manifold and took the sensor off the egr diaphram plugged it in and tucked it away the car runs fine at an idle but when you take it down the street it has no pick up and it spits and pops. the car ran ok before i rebuilt it and everthing was changed in the overhaul... anyone have some ideas on what this could be. thanks for the help

Make sure your block off is good enough for no leaks.
Make sure your egr plunger is half way in. I believe that's what you're supposed to do, then again, i'm fighting my car to idle more than 15 minutes.... ahhhhh, the joys of a 500+ at the crank car...

Your car is spitting and popping because even though you physically deleted the EGR, you computer doesn't know that. What you are actually doing is creating a lean condition and detonating. There is trick with tucking the plunger in half way (which I don't know) or you can get some kind of tune and turn the EGR off.

I wouldn't drive around too much pinging like that.

I don't believe that the lack of EGR and EVP is your problem. I have mine disabled, and no EVP tricks (plunger half way, resistors, or a tune) and my car runs good. I believe that the EEC checks and sees that the EVP is not connected/bad and then disables it in the computer when it sets the MIL code. I'd check into other problems...

when the car was still running i had delteed the smog pump... the car has no cats but it still had an egr on it at that time. there are no leaks around the block off plate. im going the give the plunger trick a shot and see what it does is there something availble that trick the computer to think the egr is still working?
