overheating problem

sounds as though the fan might be shot anyway, or the temp controller is bad. I would bet someone has specs on the fan and controller.

Are you aware of the '95 year fan issues? It was a real issue, and Ford chose to install a circuit breaker on the high speed terminal (so if the fan starter to short out because it was on a lot, the fan shut off. Ugh).

I'd want to verify that high is coming on - test it manually either with battery power directly to the fan terminal (high speed is the bottom terminal when viewing from above the radiator, as I recall). Or try grounding Pin 17 on your CCRM. This should engage high speed. If it doesnt, the relay inside the CCRM might have taken a poop (I doubt it given the smoke you're seeing escape) or the fan itself is resistive.

A new fan motor is 70 bucks or so at the parts house if you need it.

FWIW, low speed comes on at 208*F, as you noted. High comes on at 228*F or with the AC on MAX.

If you get fed up with relying on the stock controlling, you can do fan switches. For low speed, supply Pin 14 on the CCRM with 12 volts (you're only energizing a relay, so draw is nominal). And for high speed, ground Pin 17 as mentioned earlier.
If you want to do away with that (I did that for a while and got fed up), you can install a Dc Controller - it rocks on that application.

It's a stand-alone fan controller. The kit comes complete with everything you need and it's function is light years above that of the stock set-up. The controller is variable - it will keep your temps at whatever temp you desire (assuming components are able to do that).

The FK-35 is the one for the 94-95 fan........... Just in case you ever decide to switch over.

I only suggested that in case you find deeper issues with the fan not coming on (like I did).

Kevin, post this on your other thread in 94-95 land. The guys over there have been buying fan motors a lot lately and can give you the exact part #.
