Hey folks.

Recently picked up a '93 cobra. an aftermarket electric fan was installed, but the car would overheat while idling because I think the temp sensor was busted or something. So I just wired the fan to a switch so I can just turn it on and off at will. Now, the temperature remains fine while idling, but when I start driving, stop and go, cruising, no-matter what, the temp skyrockets. Anybody got anybody ideas? If I can pinpoint the problem, I'll fix that, or else I'm just gonna overhaul the entire cooling system. Thanks folks.

What are you using for a gauge? The fox III gauges are just as retarded as the SN95 gauges.

How hot is your gauge of choice actually reading? Is the car boiling over? Have you pressure tested the system?

Good luck.

Its an aftermarket autometer gauge. It usually climbs up to 230 before I pull over and let it cool off. The first time I wasn't paying attention and steam started coming out from under the hood. Sometimes I can actually hear it boiling.

It could be something as simple as the lower rad hose collapsing. it maybe a falty thermostat. Maybe a plugged rad. Get the cooling system flushed.

If it ran cooler I'd suspect the fan. Does it take a while to warm up? Check the radiator cap and thermostat. They are cheap and easy to replace. Also look at the radiator surface and condenser if you have A/C it may be plugged up with debris restricting flow. If you just got the car a flush and fresh coolant might be worthwhile too.

If it's only running hot while going real slow or stopped, chances are it's still the fan. Running at ok temps at speed indicates the system is ok in general.

If you feel like it, swap the fan off your SN to this car for an afternoon and see how it does.

Good luck.
