Someone explain to me what a P.I. intake and heads are. And what does the P.I. stand for? I’m trying to figure this out and if I’m missing out on something that I should be doing.
I feel like such a idiot asking this question but I can’t stand not knowing.

PI stands for performance improvement.

99+ Mustangs have PI heads, intake, and cams. Anyone with a mod motor that is not PI (pre 99) should seriously consider this expensive and time consuming mod.

I have a 98 GT stock, what gains could i expect from a PI upgrade intake and heads? I just got my first stang and just want to beef it up a little for now.

Thanks

Not sure what the specs were for 98 but I think they jumped to 260 h.p. for 99.

Add about another 5-6hp over a stock '99, since swapping over the PI gear onto your '98 will up the compression from the stock 9:1 range to around 10.4:1. And count on having to run premium fuel all of the time too.

nope, the 3 guys i know who have dyno'd after the pi swap were all in the 240-250 rwhp range.. all gained a minimum of 50rwhp. One guy gained over 60rwhp. Anyone who has had there NPI dyno'd knows they only get between 175 to 190 on avg. I have yet to dyno mine but i'm sure i'll be in the 250 rwhp range with my boltons. I dyno's at 178 NPI with exhaust.

is that with boxers or briefs on? cause boxers can get bunched up and give false reading.

Hmmm, interesting. I wouldn't have guessed that the slight bump in compression would give a '98 owner a 20-25fwhp jump over a stock '99-'04?
