Okay so I recently passed smog on the mustang so now I can move on to other things. The car was in a front end accident a while back that caused some damage to the brake line and power steering hoses behind the radiator. I purchased the brake lines from ford yesterday so thats taken care of. I've been looking for the correct hoses to buy but got a little mixed up. From what I see there are a total of 5 hoses that connect the power steering together. Some of them are pressure hoses and some are return lines. What I'd like to know is exactly what hoses will I need to overhaul the steering system. Also what steps do I need to take to install these together? FYI, I'm replacing the 2 brake lines from the abs controller to master cylinder, 1 brake line from the abs controller to left front caliper. I know I need to flush and bleed both systems but I don't know where to begin.

The car is a 2000 Mustang GT.

Okay so I made a picture to show the lines. I know 2 pressure lines so far. The lines in question are the ones I need. One comes off the steering rack and stright into the reservoir. The other hits that same hose on a T type fitting into the reservoir. Ford parts dealer says something about gear to cooler and cooler to gear. Didn't see any pictures so I couldn't make it out. So what are these two lines called?

Thanks

The pump to Hydroboost pressure line is Part# XR3Z3A719AA
The pump to rack pressure line is Part# XR3Z3A719CA (22") / XR3Z3A719AA (26")
The pre-2001 pump return (lower) hose is Part# XR3Z3A713BA
The upper return hose is Part# XR3Z3A713AA

When you get ready to start the bleeding process let me know and I'll help.

the one going from the hydroboost right to the steering rack is the presure line the other line is a return..

the line runing from the pump to the hydroboost is also a presure line. make sure you are clear about the ones you want.

I posted exactly what I was looking for. The 2 lines I'm looking for are the 2 question marks. Was the picture not clear enough?

Thanks for the help.

Yeah I'm definately going to need some help with the bleeding process. Another question for you would be what fluid and how much will I need to do this? I know I need some sort of ATF for the P/S fluid. I'd like to get everything purchased that way I can start whenever I get the chance.

I meant clear with the parts guys, there are some really good ones out there but for the most part they are not techs and you have to be very carefull on how you tell them, in fact I would point ot the lines in the picture on the parts computer.. I did not notice the question marks, I have a LOT of threads to look at on this site, I pretty much read all of them since I moderate the entire site now, so if I miss something is mostly because I skim read and try to just read the point of a tech post.

As far as the fluid we use mercon III at the dealer for all P/S systems on modern fords, this is what we are instructed to do by ford. If you can not get three then use mecron V ..... Ford is phasing out III right now and has told us to use mercron V or the new black bottles labeled multiuse III/V ( same stuff as mecron V)

How much will I need to pick up for the install? I hear people try to flush the system first but I don't know if its necessary. If I'm doing the brake lines and p/s hoses at once what should I do first in terms of bleeding?

Damn just looked up those 2 numbers on ford and they aren't cheap. Any ohter places I can pick up these hoses?
