P/S lines hitting headers

I am working on a 67 mustang coupe with mac full length headers and the power steering lines hit the header tubes. I tried bending them out of the way and end up hitting the frame rail on a turn. I did a search and the only thing I could find was something about a bracket that npd sells but i dont think that will solve this problem. This is my first time with a classic and I am stumped. Its someone elses car and ditching the p/s is not an option.

I had a similar issue with the Hooker Competition long tube headers... Hooker provides (meaning you have to pay for it) a bracket to lower the "Power Steering Ram". I know you can pick one up from Mustangs Plus:

Even after installing this drop, I still had to play with my hoses to get them to hang the way I wanted them.

2-piece or bigblock hoses and just route them around the headers? I'm not too fond of the drop brackets, after all the torn framerails I've seen.

Yup. Been there done that. I had to have the bracket welded on to the frame to get it driveable again. Would have much rather had the framerail repaired, but couldn't afford it at the time.

I had a custom pressure line made and then ran them both under the engine so that they stay out of the way of the headers.

Just out of curiousity; can you explain the framerails issue? I'm guessing that by dropping the the bracket there is more leverage being intruduce to the frame rail by the Power Steering Ram?

Just curious...

Your other option of course is to simply loose the long tubes for some shorties. I kept my long tubes, dimpled them a tad here and there and used the bracket but I have a 69' and a little more room to work in.

Thanks for the replies everyone. The ram wasnt my problem, it was the lines from the pump to the valve getting in the way. They pointed straight up and hit the header. The custom line would have been the best bet but no time and no one to make one (unless I make one out of AN line, hmmm..) but what I did was route the return on the inside of the motor mount an bought a new pressure line that was a little longer (NPD is right around the corner) and wrapped it around the motor mount. It took some tweaking, alot of trial and error and a few zip ties but it clears now.
