Fuel 87 5.0 Fuel rail lines

I’m trying to figure out how to solve my fuel routing issue. Quick back story: my 73 Stang has the drivetrain from an 87 TBird 5.0 in it. That vehicle’s fuel routing has both of the lines coming into the engine compartment near the frame sway bar mount. So, on my 73, I made my own fuel feed line to come up the passenger side, almost identical to the stock fuel line path, and I used the stock fuel line as my return.

So, routing fuel to the engine was easy, but routing the return is not so satisfactory. What I would like to do is find a factory fit fuel rail with regulator setup that is setup to exit the rear of the engine, for the return, while keeping the feed line at the current location. I’ve done a bit of searching on-line to find an 5.0 setup that fits that description, without any success.

Here is what my current setup looks like:

I’m good with the feed line where this one is. I just need the return hard line to exit somewhere in the rear, instead of like this configuration that parallels the pressure side towards the passenger front. I hope one of you guys remembers a year and model that fits close to this. I’d hope I could find one at a pic-a-part or maybe someone has one to sell. Thank you for the generous advice.

Just to clarify, I currently have it plumped and running. I’m just not happy with the routing of my return line. I’d post photoes, but I’m a bit disappointed with how I left it. That’s on my 73 Coupe. I’m in the middle of a Coupe to Vert swap, so I have an opportunity to change this, and I know that some 5.0’s routed the return line from the top of the manifold to the rear of the engine. I was just unable to locate year and make because while I’m sure those aftermarket parts would work, it wouldn’t cure the issue that the current exit is at the air pump.

I saw the return at rear on an engine for sale on FM, but try as I may, the owner selling the motor didn’t know what it came off of. And, it was a stock setup. Just trying to clarify, thanks.

Is it the F-150/Crown Vic fuel rail that you saw?

I think those two are the same.

Anywho... I would look around at the 5oh fuel rails on other trucks and cars from 1986 through 1995 and see if you find one you like.

Otherwise, a fuel rail kit like the second link I posted, will allow you set it up however TF you want. The rails and injectors are the only pieces fixed positions. You can put the inlet/outlet where you like.

I run an explorer fuel rail on my turbo 331 car. It has rear exiting fuel rails. I run them both on the drivers side. Fuel pressure regulator is in same spot as an EFI mustang but uses the Ford Lightening FPR bolt pattern ( not specific to just a lightening ). This is what they look like.
