I have a power steering pump from an '87 Crown Vic that I have put into my 68 351W car with the original PS system. I had lines fabricated from the pump to the cylinder to get this to work. I have hedman headers which required me to use the PS ram drop bracket to clear the headers.
My problem is that the ram seems to be too good and the excessive force applied by the ram onto the drop bracket practically rips the bracket from the frame rail. Is my pump to powerfull for the stock components? I getting tired of always getting new hardware and reattaching/tightening this bracket. I have plans to weld it in place but I want to make sure the pump isn't too strong and what recommendations people have for this.

I would like to go R&P at some future date but this is not within the budget at this time.

IIRC that is the main problem with the header drop bracket. I doubt the pump is the problem. While I don't have a solution for you, I thought you might like to know that the problem is fairly common.
