So my Mother calls me today and says that her SES light came on 3 days ago and she had the parts store pull the codes for her.

P0463 Fuel Level Sensor Circuit High Input

She drives a '05 v6 vert that is still in factory condition (no modifications at all). Engine idles fine
Engine temp runs normal
No bucking or hesitating at speed.
No heavy smell of fuel at exhaust or anywhere on fuel system.
Fuel guage in cluster functions normal.

What would cause this problem? Or is it just a fluke??

I told her to bring it by tomorrow and I will clear the code for her. Then have her drive it for a few days to see if the code gets thrown again. That's the only thing I could think of to do.

Any one have input or comments, please share.

TIA,
Jinx

Yeah I posted there to, but no response yet. Oh well. I've got my scanner with me today and am going to clear the codes for her to see if they come back.

Ant ideas as to why yours threw the code??

I believe there is a TSB on this and if I remember correctly, it had something to-do wth the high sulphur content of some fuels.
there is a revised fuel sender and certian fuel(gas) Ford recommends you to use, like Chevron, BP and 1 other

maybe Mike can shed somemore light on this?

Thanks for the input Randy

I'll have to remember to ask her what brand of gas she's using. If it comes back after I clear it, I'll print out the TSB and tell her to take it to Ford.

UPDATE

My OBDII code reader pulled no codes, yet the engine light was still on. I disconnected the Batt. and waited 20 min. then reconnected. The engine light is no longer on and I told her to keep an eye on it and let me know if it comes back.

Note: She was using Citgo gas. I told her to switch to Chevron brand for a while.

your OBDII code reader will not be able to pull codes from a 05+ model year ford if it is not a CAN capable scanner..

the tsb randy is talking about is 07-3-9 and is for code p0456 and a new fuel sending unit fixes that one.. I bet your problem here is due to a bad fuel sending unit.

see if the code comes back and if it does scan it will a newer CAN ready scantool.

Will keep the info in mind. It may be a while before this thread is updated again. Gonna wait to see if the sensor throws a code again since I reset it today.

i forgot about the 'o5+ OBDII scan deal

i bought a small OBDII scan tool for $60 from mac and it doesn't work on all the 'o5 and up models i've tried it on (ford, volvo, honda)

just send her to the dealership next time if she's still under warranty

Update

Hahahahaha. No one has responded in the '05 forums yet.

Anyway....

It's been a few weeks since I reset her computer. She switched to a brand of gas with cleaner additives, as recomended, and the light/code has not come back.

Thanks for the advice everyone.
