well.

I am working on swapping out a 5spd 89 mustang GT. Installing a Pa Comp c4.
Tranny is install all is well car runs thr gears good..........until.....I I get on it some and shift into 2nd gear the car just rolls not in gear anymore. I try all gears including reverse and no luck.....pull the car back and start to look at it..no signs of any damage looks good.

I checked fuild level OK
I checked the shifter linkage OK
I checked the driveshaft OK

The car ROLLS in all gears any ideas of what I can check now instead of having to send tranny back to PA.

It should not roll in gear?

any help would be great
thanks

Hmm...when you checked the fluid level, did you check it with the motor running, warm, and the trans in park?

The T5 parts are already sold. thanks

Well I called PA and they told me to check to see if the tranny is pumping fuild. I unhooked the tranny cooler line and no fuild pumps......so it could be bad pump or converter not splinded up correctly.......I have pulled the tranny out and everything looks good I have not pulled the valve body pan.......going to call PA and see what they say next tranny got warranty I just hate the wait and cost to ship to them.........

Well,my PA SuperComp C4 works great.

The converters are very easy to mess up if your in a hurry, you got to make sure they FULLY engage the pump. You also must remeber to fill them befor putting them on...

Are you saying that, in drive, it engages 1st, then shifts to second, but second does not engage, and it acts like it's in neutral?

If so, it could be the 1-2 shift valve failing to operate, or the intermediate band failing to engage, or a couple of other things. It may be that one of the clutches is not engaging, or is coming off when it trys to go into second.

Did you make sure the valvebody was properly engaging the manual shift valve and the manual downshift valve. The vb can be installed with the manual downshift lever inside the trans not engaging the valve properly. It will cause it not to operate very well. You should feel some problem with the linkage or gas pedal as a give away. But if you're doing it for the first time, it may not be apparent.

Also, is the vacuum modulator installed and getting good vacuum?

Also note that this takes 10-12 quarts of fluid to fill the trans, converter and cooler, etc.

I've had this in both second and third. I cured it, temporarily anyway, by cleaning the valve body. My 2-3 shift valve was just plain stuck. The other case required a rebuild.

I would call PA, as they seem to be very good and very hands on. They also focus on Ford stuff more than anyone else.

email from PA.

From what you describe, it sounds like the pump gears were broken during installation. That is caused by the torque converter not being splined completely into the trans prior to install.

Where are you located? It may be much cheaper for you to the trans repaired locally (it would not void the warranty) that to ship the unit back to us for repair. Shipping is not covered by warranty.

Call me if you have any questions.

he told me when I check that out and get fixed to get a straight edge and make some measurements to make sure converter is enganged all the way.

anyone know steps for this?

Fairly simple, you put te converter on,and turn it while applying pressure untill it "clicks" in.It will "click-in" 2 or 3 times, you will know when its engaged fully as the converter will be significantly below the bellhousing face.

MAKE SURE IT'S FILL FULLY BEFOR YOU PUT IT ON!

The converter will have trapped air in it once you take it out,so filling will take awhile, keep adding fluid and waiting, untill the little bubbles stop.

You will be able to turn it quick once its on,and it will maybe shoot some fluid out, that way you'll know its good to go.
