Quick paint question here...
I have some blemishes on my paint and was wondering how much a total paintjob generally would cost for a car. Would they need to remove the old paint and paint over it then clearcoat or would it just require sanding down areas (like on my hood there is a crack or something in the hood that would definitly need sanding) and then painting over and clearcoating as long as i went with the same color?

After what happened to my car (can be seen http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=558331 ) ive had to consider a new paint job so i figured id ask people who actually knew what they were talking about (hopefully )

specifically this picture, lower left hand corner of the hood underneath where it says BABY

I can also take some pics of the other parts (spoiler has some cracking and spider cracks, some scuffing on the trunk, paint off where spoiler meets the trunk and is starting to rust out possibly, small scratches on the surface, on the bumper behind the rear wheels, on the side scoops, approx. 5mm door ding on passenger door, paint chips/exposed plastic on front bumper in 2 or 3 spots) that would need some work. Would touchup paint work or would it be brighter than the old stuff and stick out even worse? I guess i dont know much at all about paint aspects on cars other than that you pay dearly for paint and even more for labor. Any info would probably be new to me.

I would clay bar it, also try a 50/50 mix of h20 and rubbing alcohol. If that doesn't work make your neighbors pay for the paint job. That stuff sitting in the sun has pretty much ethced/stained itself into your paint.

i got most of the chalk off so thats pretty much behind me, except she owes me a wax/claybar/wash/other as well. Im just wondering about the paint and how much it would cost for a whole job or just touchups if they would blend in or not. Ive wondered this since the day i bought it.

Try going to a detailer, see if they can rub it out with a mild cutter and buffing pad.As far as the cracing, that is best to take down to the metal so it doesnt come back.

Once that stuff bakes into your paint, game over. The only thing that could possibly save the paint that's on there is a good wet-sanding, but it may be too late. That's vandalism in my opinion, make them pay for a new paint job.

You'll be able to tell most likly if you spot paint. Fresh paint and "faded/warn" paint will be hard to blend in with the rest. I have a 95 white gt and was rear ended so i got a new bumper and paint, trust me you can tell the previous owner did not care for the paint as well as I do now though. Even so fresh paint is fresh paint it's hard to blend 7+ year old paint with fresh paint. Make them pay to fix the damage find a great detailer in your area to completely fix the damage if not you'll pay around 3g's for a great paint job.
