Gentlemen, have a black 2002 GT. The paint over all of the plastic pieces is coming off at an alarming rate. I needed some body work done and 2 of the 3 shops basically told me I have one of those "Ford paint jobs." Evidently, according to them some of the paint jobs from Ford during at least my 2002 model year were faulty. All of my paint over metal is fine, over plastic just going away.

Anyone else have this problem or heard of this? Car is waxed 3-4 times annually and garaged or covered about 1/2 the time. Ford of course blew me off, fat chance of a new 5.0 from me. Warm summers in Houston, but no ice, snow or salt. Thanks for the input.

yes ford did have some problems with the paint. sometimes it got to many base coats that caused the paint to crack and eventually peel. sometimes the paint wasnt thick enough and just wore down to soon. i have a problem with the paint cracking over my passenger side quarter glass panel. just something that happens with automated painting. just have a local shop to paint the parts that need fixing or save up and have the whole car repainted. there really isnt anything that you can really do to prolong the peeling without repainting the places. the only cheap way to fix this is to do it yourself. the black from ford is just a solid black paint that doesnt have any flakes or metallics in it so this could be a easy job for anyone with lesser skills in painting. if you want pm me and ill go in depth of a quick and easy way to fix this yourself. goodluck

Hi Seth, thanks for your service. My son in law is a contractor over there and is getting really nervous about the area. Been there starting in 2004 and has put in about 6 years. Travelling is what he worries about most.

I would like to get your info about painting. I've got to replace the front bumper and fender also from a truck hit. Never had this happen to any of my cars.

Thanks in advance,
