I have received no answers from the Sound and Shine forum.

I want to have my car stripped to the bare metal and then painted with a white base coat and then 4 coats of House of Kolor Neon Blue and then clear coated. I would have to supply the paint and want a good idea how much paint I would need to order for the base coat and for the blue. Can anyone give me an idea?

probably a gallon of each. maybe 2 on the blue since you want 4 coats.

I used HOK too with a white base and later was told I could have used less paint if i used a base closer to my color. At 165 bucks a quart, that wouldve helped.I ended up using 9 quarts and a gallon of base.Make sure to buy extra, because i bought a quart later and it was off a little.I spent about 1500 on materials

I have been searching high and low here in Euroland for a place to paint my car that would not rip me off. I found a place in Czech that would strip it to the bare metal and repaint for USD 2000 but the transport costs would have been more than the cost of the paint. My car goes through a full tank of gas every 2 hours on the freeway at 75 mph and with gas at $7.50 a gallon, driving it there is not an option either. I started to get some local estimates and was quoted EUR 10,000 by one guy and EUR 5-6000 by another, both in the Amsterdam area.

I have a friend who is at a NATO divisional HQ down in the south of the NL who found this shop that specializes in restoring corvettes and does a pretty good job of it at that. I drove my car down there yesterday, spending EUR 160 in gas for the round trip, and got an estimate. I have been giggling to myself ever since.

They will strip the car to the bare metal, repair the rust spots, prime and repaint with 3-4 coats of grabber blue, and clear coat for EUR 3000 (and that includes the cost of materials). They have a guy who comes in from Germany who does the interiors for their vettes and he will pull my old interior and install my new kit from Laurel Mountain Mustang (carpet, dash, door panels, kick panels, quarter trim, headliner, seat foam, upholstory, and more) for about EUR 250-350 and that includes replacing the springs in the front seats.

Sometimes life is good.
