I was talking to a good friend of mine about my rock chips that I have on my front bumper and hood and he told me that he can paint my car for free, All I have to do is buy the paint. (he is a professional by the way)
Here is what I have been thinking:

1.)whether to have him paint soft silver flames from the front of the car to about where the "GT" emblems are at. (to cover up the chips) easy, cheap and simple
2.) paint the whole car a total different color (comp. orange or cobra R red)
3.) paint the car with color changing paint like to red/orange (he said that he is not sure about this process, but will get with some of his coworkers and see if they want to do this and how much $ it will take) if not then its outta the question

the only reason Im hesitant about painting my whole car is because of downtime and if I sell the car people will start thinking that it was wrecked and if it was painted to try to cover up something. (thats if I go with a different color)

BY THE WAY MY CAR IS A TRUE BLUE

I would paint the bumper only, the same color as it is... true blue.
Or the whole car true blue. That way you dont have to mess with the door jams
or inside the hood or trunk, wheel wells etc.
But if he can give you a high quality paint job free and not miss these hard to paint areas...... go for it, the 2 tone mettalic

its more than 2X if its done right.

Stick with the orignal color, maybe the silver flame(er) thing if thats what you like. but don't go changing the color of it unless your friend can do the door jambs, trunk jambs, entire underhood(bottom of hood, inside fender, frame rails, etc.)

Its a long process and if he wants to do it more power to him but for good paint your looking at $1000 at least.

You'll need sealer, activator for sealer, reducer for sealer, paint, reducer for paint, clearcoat, activator for clear, and reducer for clearcoat. Not to mention all the masking paper and tape, scotch brite pads, sandpaper, rubbing compound and a buffer(guessing your friend has one though).

Still a good price compared to $6000 or more at a shop.

If you have the money go for it. but don't get cheap paint get PPG Deltron or Dupont chromabase at least.

And as far as the mystics or color changing paint get House of Kolor and make sure to do it correct your friend cannot panel paint this like he probably paints most things, he has to go the length of the car on each pass and his overlap of pattern has to be darn near perfect each pass. One mess up and he has to start all over. Its like $70 an ounce where you can get a quart for about that in the PPG or Dupont.

I just wanted to know what you guys thought and what would you do in my situation.
he said he will paint everything inside and out (inside fender and all that hard stuff too) he doesnt want to give me a half assed job
whatever I decide I will post some before and after shots of his work.

Im not a big fan of flames, unless they are the flames that look real, & still flames just look cheesy to me. I would just repaint it true blue, but only after you see some of his work to see how good he is. You dont want your car lookin like u went to Maaco.

Only get flames if he can make them look like this, I gotta admit these flames look sick. And on a blue car, I dont know.

That color scheme would look good with the blue, but you gotta get flames that look realistic.

true blue actually has pearls and metalic in it.

I think what he is meaning is kinda like a candy paint. With those you have a certain color sealer then a base coat, depending on what color you actually choose, mid coat (pearl coat, real heavy pearl with little pigment) this is the tricky coat to paint. It has to be even every pass or it will look like a$$. Then clearcoat.

Ask him if he is good at tri stage pearls. Then see if he want to try it.

House of Kolor has a paint chip book with all the differnt midcoats over all the differnt basecoat.
some final colors don't look like the base coat at all. example: you might have to get a silver base coat and then a differnt color mid coat and you end up with a dark blue.

i think Dupont and PPG no have there versions to. you'll have to check at local autoparts store that sells paint.
