I just got a used Cowl Hood. Its white with stickers as racin stripes. Which are a pain in the A@* to get off. Anyways, What is the process for stripping, sanding, priming, painting, clear coating???? Not a painter, but willing to learn!
most body shops sell an eraser for removing stickers and pinstrips just ask for an eraser it fits in drill i have not used on fiber glass but on steel it leaves the paint underneathon to prep number one is to wash the hood two wipe with silicon wax and grease remover the reason for this is u dont want to sand contaminets into the surface these are what are called fish eyes(place where the paint has trouble sticking) after all sticker are removed scuff up the existing paint with 80 grit or maybe 180 until it loses it shine this give a good surface for the primer to stick spray with a primer surfacer buy a hand block and start blocking, use 400 grit fiberglass is wavy the is very time consuming u block in a criss cross pattern basicly like a x pattern after u do this spray again with primer surfacer repeat after u do this again spray with a very light coat of red paint basicly u want to give it a speckled appearence and then u block over the panel until all red paint is gone this will show u high/low spots that need work when finished wet sand with some 600-800 grit paper blocking but wet (some new finishes need at least an 800 grit scratch)wash off wipe with wax and grease remover use a tack rag to get any dust off spray with sealer let dry tack again spary color let stand up tack again then clear
What he said. But I wouldnt go as far as 800 grit. You can easily spray a good epoxy over 400 and not see the scratch. 800 is way too fine to acheive mechanical adheision.
