Painting engine bay black ?

Anyone on here have a black engine bay on a different color car. I am going to be painting the engine bay and wanted to see some pics of black engine bay. My car is blue, let me know what you guys think and pics would be great. Also I was looking into por 15, but I want this to look good.

i used por-15 on my engine bay, worked out great, its very durable. i suggest using the por-15 metalready cleaner. its well woth the money and time when its complete.

What do you put it on with? A brush or spray?

I dont know what he used, but i know hes right about using the metal prep.. the por-15 is expensive as it is (about 33 bucks a quart) and i brushed mine on my floorpan, and it took 2 coats to make it look good (not that anyone will see it, but ill know it) and it leveled itself out to where there were no brush marks. With that stuff being as expensive as it is, i would probaby use whichever method usues the least amount of the stuff upon application.

the engine bay in my dads 76 was done like that. started as awhite car he painted blue and the engine bay is black. ill have to ask him if you used a gun to spray it with or a roll on typre of thing

here's my work in progress

btw, stang22 has the best looking black engine bay that you will ever see in a mustang, his paint job is flawless.

Nice! I should have cut out the frame rail on mine but of course I didn't consult :SNSign: before I sprayed mine...
We both have jacked up caster camber plates

hmm look good still cant decide on whether to paint it body color or black. Pauly do you have any fuller pics of the engine bay so I can see the contrast of you cars color verse the black

is there anyone way you can paint the engine bay without pulling the engine? just to cover up the old color? if i have to pull the engine then so be it but it would be one less thing. and its not going to be a show car :shurg:

I should of taken more pics when I finished. I'm too lazy pull the car cover off and get it all cleaned up for a good pic.
It looks good to me but I always thought black and red go good together.

Given the choice I would go with the body color although black is kinda universal for an engine bay. Lots of the older muscle cars came with a black bay. I my case it was extremely hard to match my 'candy' red. I tried but just wasn't feelin it.

That's how one of the previous owners did it to my car. You can tell because there is a little overspray on stuff like the PS pump. Of course, mine's no show car either but it looks a lot better than a ****ty looking engine bay.

sorry for the delay, i painted it on with a brush straight from the can. i used semi-flat black. i scuffed everything with a green scotch pad, then wiped it with metal ready, then painted. took over 24hrs to dry. i did two coats. make sure you wear gloves. i painted the engine with por-15 engine paint, that worked out just as well. good luck
