Painting / Hiding wires??

Anyone ever use black armor coat type paint on their engine bay... Mine is all dirty and beat to hell... we are going to start pulling my engine soon to put the new one in... just wondering if there is a specific paint i should use or if anyone has done something like this.... Also any wire hiding tips???

as far as hiding wires, just take your time. and label stuff as you pull it. get a bunch of wire loom and electrical tape and connectors. take out your in inner fenders and just hide stuff there.

i sprayed my engine bay and the underhood with truck bedliner spray (the expensive $8/can spray) and really like how it turned out. i'll get some pics asap.

If yours is the same color as mine get some "candy apple" red from salvo. almost matches the exterior paint exactly, then maybe clear coat less hot areas. I tried black and it made it look like a heap in my o.

I thought about painting mine this engine pull as well. Especially since I'm changing the K-member and removing the A/C and will have more stuff out of the way.

Is the bedliner spray like the undercoating spray? I used that on my fog light housings and it SUCKS. It took DAYS to dry and smells terrible. No way I could use that in my garage unless I was planning to move. So tell me it's not like it. LOL

How about some feedback on the bedliner stuff. Is it like the undercoating in a can? Smells terrible, and takes forever to dry? I ask because I'm doing this pull in winter, so drying times will play a BIG factor in my decision.

it's great stuff, i think. i first used it to spray the underside of the hood and liked it so much that i decided to use it in the bay. it leaves a slightly fine texture and dries pretty hard after an hour or so (maybe less). i had to touch up a couple areas because i didn't wait long enough to put stuff back in.

i took out all i could (cai, etc) and degreased/pressure washed the bay (covering all electronics). after letting it dry completely i masked stuff off and started spraying--didn't even scuff anything.

i got the more expensive one @ Advance--it's about $8 a can and i used almost 2 cans.

for about $16, i'm incredibly happy w/ the results. i'll post some "before" shots--HELL of a difference!

that undercoating stuff is horrible... tried it on some other stuff and didn't like it at all.

Good deal.... glad it's not like the undercoating. It would be great if they had the bedliner stuff in different colors. But black would work good from my engine bay as well.

I used about 4 cans of the trunk paint for my trunk. It's pricey as well. And it's not durable at all. I even scuffed the paint before I used it. It just scratches right off, and it took 24 hours to dry each coat.

Paul what brand of spray did you use? I can only find the roll on stuff (Hercules) on their website.

lemme think... hmm, name's not coming to me, but i know the can was about $7.99 and it's in the section where they sell the duplicolor paint, thinner, undercoating, and other body supply stuff.

can't find it on their site, either, but i've seen it at every local Advance i've been to.

i'll get the name when i get home--i know it has the word "bedliner" in there, hehe.

It looks much easier to keep clean. I'll just have to look closer at my engine bay to see how much I can actually move or tape well around. Going from bright red to black will be trickier and require a very thorough job to look right. Hmmmm.... tough call indeed. I may try to match the paint up first, then if that doesn't go right, I'll look at this route.
