Does anyone know how many cans of each I will need to paint my interior (dash, all vinyl/trim/panels)?

prep paint (for vinyl)
sealer paint (for plastic/metal)
paint itself

I figured 5 cans each for the prep and sealer paints, and a dozen or so cans of the paint itself. Thanks alot!

Friend of mine and I used 1 can of vinal black paint for his 78 Mustang. He painted the dash, console, quarter trims, A-post trims and kick panels. He still had a lot left. You want to use thin coats. Don't pile it on because it will run. His car looks better than ever!!

Question about painting interior parts (plastic). I have RED interior and was thinking of painting it either blue, grey or black. How does it look painted? What i mean is, does it look painted, shiney and stuff or does it look like it did factory, dull and clean? I know that some of the colors are painted by the factory but after many years of being in the car how does this look and stand up to normal driving?

Wow that doesn't seem like much paint to me. I don't know where I got it in my head that I needed so much. Thanks for saving me some $$$.

I just did a cuda interior over the winter. We used 5 or 6 spray bombs to change from a green interior to a black one. Don't get a gloss color the semi gross is a nicer finish.

if your interior is red then your better get new stuff unless yo upaint it black. if you paint it grey or blue the red will just bleed right threw them< and you dont want to pile it on there..

I used one can of the interior lacquer, and one can of the vinyl spray from 50resto. also, and it turned out really well. Just make sure you clean everything with prep solvent first, any grease or oil with make it fish eye and look bad.

Good luck..

Your's looks like exactly what I'm hoping for. Going from grey/blue to black.

So I figure I'll get 1 can of vinyl prep, 2 cans of sealer for the plastic, 6 cans of laquer and 4 for vinyl.

I used one can on just one quarter panel

for the guy asking about how it looks painted, I took my time and did more thin layers, and it looks like it was the stock piece, can hardly tell its painted

I also use the stuff from 50resto..only used like two cans of prep (which in hindsight i wouldn't run at all cause it didn't seem to help any or atleast not much. I also didnt use that much. I stayed with factory titanium for the 90 but just redid all the pieces as some of them were looking pretty weathered. I maybe have 8-12 cans in it complete.

I just started on my black conversion from the 92 all red... I am using the $.96/can flat black from wallyworld, with a clear sprayed over it... it looks amazing and is durable also.

I painted my hatch panels with the grey from 50resto. I only bought one can of grey and wished I had bought two. I was just refreshing the smoke grey that the car already has.

If I had red interior I would definitely prime everything before I put anything else on it. You would want to make sure its sealed up real good or the red will come through.

I've done this before to my 95. Went from tan to black and it turned out really well. Looking to do the 87 now. Read the comments above by others and you will be ok. DO NOT paint in humid weather!!!

Also, I suggest buying correct color door sill plates cause your feet will scrape the paint off (no matter how well you use adhesion promoter or cleaner) and you will see the stock color. Keep us updated w/pics.
