painting my interior...any tips?

ok well im going to be painting my interior on my notch black.rite now it is blue and in pretty good condition but i just want it black.

now i went to a paint store near me and bought some sem landau black interior paint and i also bought the undercoat for it to.

besides cleaning the parts before the undercoat what would you guys recommend doing?

and does anybody have any tips for painting the dash.does it need to be removed?

ive removed everything but the dash...

The BEST tip i can give you is.... DON'T PAINT IT! By changing colors the only things that happens is when you get into your car you kick the door sill and scratch your black paint off and it shows blue through. Regardless of what anybody says changing interior colors by that paint is not the right way. I lay my cell phone under the Arm rest and it wears a little from sliding back and forth. If i had changed mine to red or some color it would rub the paint right off. Don't bother. It looks like chit anyways. Pictures hide flaws. Don't waste your time/money.

Bull. Dont listen to them. DO IT. I did mine. It was the best mod I ever did. MAKE SURE YOU CLEAN IT GOOD. I painted everything except the carpet which I replaced. Looks awesome.

Did mine with the dye/paint from 5.0 resto. Mine was the same colow though. but, their paint does not scratch off if done right.

Dont listen to mustangowner hes a punk kid. Its your car, not his... if you want to save a few bucks, paint your interior. Be sure to prep the plastic or else the paint will not stick. There are many many high quality dye styled paints that "soak" in and really bite. Apply thin even coats and paint as many parts out of the car as possible to prevent overspray and tape lines. heres a little inspiration as to how good it can look when you spend the time on prep with patience. I did my center console the same color as body and plan on doing my dash as well. Notice- no ashtray ! I got distracted with a new engine combo, Ill come back to the interior next spring.

x2, I did it, wish I didn't and WILL be buying a black interior or doing something different, but to make a post like that, go sit in the corner he didnt ask yes or no, he asked tops from people who did it and did it right.

I did mine right, your best bet is to go slow, prep real well, and do lots of coats in the right temperature and lighting. Get the coats nice and even and it should hold up some. When it starts to fade and come off, simply tape prep and spray, simple enough. If you think it will not look factory, your being misled, it can look just like a factory black interior!

mine was blue before to but in ****ty shape, i dyed it and it looks great still..7 months or so now, check out my thread i have its like 7 pages long...

biggest thing is prep and thin even coats!.

Ah...now I remember you..you were that SaleenLXGT or what ever the hell your last name was...you have no clue....you talk miles of crap...witch leaves you in the middle of looking like an ass majority of the time..just like now. Piss poor job on the interior, just like I imagine you would do on the rest of your car...cut corners here there..blah blah blah. Pictures hide flaws...but the trophy collection for my little girl..and OH LORD her dyed interior does not. You did a crap job, and the results were crap, now you want to talk everyone out of doing what you were unable to do sucessfully.

To the original poster...if you do the job PROPERLY..it will last for yrs to come and look as good as the day it rolled off the assembly line.

This was all covered in the other thread. Lets not get this one covered as well shall we? As for my defense... Pretty sure you look like the returd right now because that was not my car and i CLEARLY stated that. I made that thread to show how terrible of a job that guy(Who isn't a member on here i might add) did on his atempt to paint. I'm not dumb enough to atempt that mistake.

As for the poster, good luck if you atempt it. I wouldn't, my suggestion. If done right it will look okay. If done bad, well yah... Its cheaper to paint, but as the sang goes "If its cheap, ITS CHEAP"
