Painting stripes

Each day I come up with new things to do to my stang. For today I'm thinking of paint(myself and my dad) some stripes on my stang but what would I have to do to do that? I'm guessing I would have to sand the area that would need the work, right? My dad mentioned using degreaser to take it off? How would adding a clear coat work? I would guess that the whole car would have to be sanded to get the clear coat off and the clear coat the whole car? Any ideas?

Degrease, tape off, scuff, shoot, wetsand any ridge, scuff all, clear.

By clear, you mean that I would just have to clearcoat the area that I painted?

Myself, I would at least do the panel. You may be good at feathering clear and buffing it out.

I meant to say blending instead of feathering, but blending is when you pull the area back a little ways on the panel that you are spraying. You want to draw it back after each succesive coat so that there is not a definitive line where the new paint and old paint meet.

With clear, you thin it out a bit more with each coat. Then pull the edge back a bit. Once it dries, then sand and buff and it should blend in without being able to tell where you stoppd and where you started.

For a better explanation, you may want to do as I did and buy a book. The one I got from Amazon is titled "How to Paint Your Car".
