I was just looking at my cars front brakes and i reached through one of the wheel openings and felt a piece of paper in the caliper. i was going to try and tear it out, but i didnt because i dont know what it is. it looks like black sandpaper and its all bunched up behind the caliper. what is this? the other side looks the same way. i havent a clue what brake pads look like new or worn. many thanks.

yeah... i have. stopping is horrible. im having the mash it almost just to come to a normal stop. sometimes the pedal feels like its hitting something and jerks back up when i press it, thats mainly when i hit bumps though. i dont know if that has anything to do with the paper.

got a pic.

i hope this isnt the pad. both fronts look this way, all bunched up.

That looks like a warped shim. Some brake pad companies make crappy shims that warp and look like garbage after a while. Shims come with brake pads to minimize the squeling sound. As far as stopping issues I think all of mustangs are like that unless you are having a severe case.
