passenger air bag issue

we went to NH yesterday, the passenger air bag kept turning itself off and on. My wife had her feet (in stockings) up on the dash, could it have a sensor in there? Also, my floor heat seems confused with my windshield defrost, I need to have it looked at. Does anyone else have a passenger air bag that does this?

My wife does the same thing with her feet/legs (until I inform her to do otherwise) and it causes the airbag light to go off and on....because while they are sitting in that stupid position, their weight shifts and the sensor picks this up. So it's not a problem with your airbag system, it's with your wife (as with mine). On the good side, apparently both of our wives are small enough to do this with their feet and we should thank the man above! As for the defroster, that's a new one to me...good luck.

yes, there is a sensor in the seat. if you put a package or small child in the front seat, the airbag will not arm. if a adult is sitting there, it will arm----ONLY if they are sitting in the seat properly. if you are not in the seat correctly, then the airbag will do more harm than good. this is an advanced saftey feature.

Definitely the sensor. But I kind of wonder about this thing--so if you are in heavy braking before a wreck and your passenger's weight slides forward, the airbag is disarmed, and then you wreck with no airbag for your passenger? Kind of makes me wonder...

if you are properly seated in the seat, and have the seat belt worn properly, then this will never happen.

I'm having an issue with mine, but it is a little different. My light does not show the airbag to be off now when I have no passengers. I'll have my dealer look at it when I go in for my first oil change.

that is normal. if there is nobody in the seat, it is still off, but the light does not come on. this is outlined in the owners manual.
