About six months ago I purchased a '96 Mystic Cobra. The PATS /alarm is just plain goofy. When I got the car I only had one key, so I had another cut and programmed (locksmith told me the car itself programs the key on the '96) The new key starts the car just fine and works great but...... the stock key will set off the alarm and activate the PATS ONLY if I use it to open the door. If the door is unlocked, the key will start the car just fine. Also, the remote will turn off the alarm but I only have one remote that works. Bought a second one but can't get the programming sequence to work for it. Any help appreciated!

Very odd problem. May want to check with a Ford dealer.You may have a key that's going south. If the new one always works, I'd get a new one cut (make sure both are authorized by Ford), and then have your PATS reprogrammed so the two new keys are your master keys. PATS is not fun when it starts going south. I went to two dealerships and over a years worth of waiting to get my issue sorted out (car wouldn't start).
