i have a 2001 mustang gt. a series of test have been run on it and the diagnosis is pats. my theft light blinks rapidly even when i crank it. if the key is left on for a while the light blinks 1, pauses, blinks 6, pauses long, then repeats the sequence again. what do i do?

If you have a second key try that , if not you will probably need to get it towed to dealer to have the pats system reprogrammed and possibly a new key if the chip in your key went bad , if you had a tuner or some sort you can get the PATS disabled but the theft light blinks all the time if you disable the system

How to troubleshoot PATS 99-04

So what were the results of the "cluster diagnostics" tests called out in the previous post?

Did you attempt to reset the anti-theft system by unlocking the driver's door with the key or with the remote FOB?

Ford TSB on diagnosing PATS

How to access cluster diagnostic mode:
Diagnostic Mode - Ford Mustang Forums

Very good link on how to access the cluster diagnosis. Also includes error codes.
Mustangworld HEC Instrument Cluster Diagnostics

Write up on PATS "blink" codes.
http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/pats.htm

FWIIW, a blink code of 1-6 is "Faulty link between PATS module and EECV" Which suggest that the PATS module and PCM may not be programmed to "know" each other. Have you replaced your PCM or cluster? Done any recent wiring work?
