pcv help

so i was feeling around for my pcv valve last night, and i grabbed a hose that felt loose. so i lift it up and there was my pcv valve. i guess i havent had a grommet h olding it in since ive had it? i feel around more and find the screen, take it out and its covered in crap. clean that off with acetone and put it back in. i broke the valve where the hose goes over it so i went to advance autoparts that night and get a new valve and a grommet. the grommet doesnt fit, it isnt big enough to hold the valve in the intake manifold so its kinda just sitting in there. but i guess this is the way my car has been since ive had it? should i order a grommet off latemodel restoration supply? wil that fit? im also gonna get a screen and a new motocraft valve while im at it. i want this valve to be held in the intake manifold, not just sitting there....what size or kind of grommet do i need? does the valve even need to be connected to the screen or is the screen just a vent? im lost?

Good call with the dealer/LRS PCV valve, grommet and screen. They should fit together nicely.

The screen sits in the lower intake, attached to nothing. It just knocks down some oily vapor.

You essentially have had a vacuum leak running with the valve loose in the intake.

Explian this vacuum leak, my PVC is also loose, it just sits in its spot but can be pulled out very eaisly. I got a new one today thinking it needs to be replaced but if it being loose is a sign of another problem please elaborate.

The PCV is a closed system. It is a fully closed loop after the MAF (an introduction of non-metered air is analogous to a vac leak). If the PCV valve is loose or just hanging above the lower intake, air that is pulled up through the valve comes from the engine bay, rather than inside the crankcase (the product of blowby, which is already metered air). This can lead to a lean condition.

The Motorcraft PCV valve and grommet are the best way to fly IMHO. I've had aftermarket crap not seal well, as opposed to the last set of Motorcraft parts I installed, where I had to use a shot of silicone spray to get the valve to slide into the grommet.

If a PCV valve pops out when it otherwise has a tight seal, that can be an indication of excessive blowby (bad rings or serious forced induction with a stock PCV outfit). In general, it should not happen.

okay so the rubber grommet on latemodel restoration supply will fit it? advance gave me a universal one that isnt big enough to hold the valve in my manifold, so its still just sitting in there.

Buy the rubber grommet from the Ford dealer.

Personally, I have used a little silicone to hold the pcv in the grommet.

Then again it turns out I was fighting some blowby as well.

I'm confused. Which part of my posts led ya to think I was being a 'smart ass'?

I've had very good luck with Motorcraft for the 3 parts needed.

The last set I got was from LRS and they were all Motorcraft.
