I bought a new one, but the line in just sits in the grommet, it is not snug, and I am not sure if I was sold the correct part.

I have a 1992 GT 5.0 HO

Is this what I need?

That looks like the one, you have to pull off the two hose barbs, pull it straight out to expose the single inline hose barb. That is where the hose connects.

yeah pull the plastic piece off.
You could also replace the gromet. That might make for a more snug fit.

The only one that I could ever get to fit tightly in the grommet, was the plastic Motorcraft one. All the metal ones I tried, fit loosely.

I think I figured a few things out.

I have learned a few things, but only have a few more questions.

Where can I buy a grommet?
Where can I buy part number PCV Valve #EV127-A Ford?
Am I suppost to be able to blow air through the small hole (hose end) with my mouth?

1. I do not have a grommet. (might be important)
2. The PCV valve is currently loose inside the hole, where the grommet should be.
3. The PCV valve currently loose in the hole is not the same as the pic above.
4. I need to get a grommet.
5. I might need to find an OEM PCV Valve #EV127-A Ford, instead of the generic part pictured above.
6. The only reason I might have to get a Ford part is because I have also read that the generic ones are not specifically designed for the 5.0 HO. Is this true, or can I use this thing?

The PCV above is a FRAM, does this matter?

Here is the picture of the picture of the removed top. But I still have the absent grommet problem.

I read that the generic parts were made so that people could buy them for their cars without having to worry about picking up the wrong one, for "convenience"

advance auto sells the rubber grommet ( that's where i got mine). if you are referring to the small hole on the pcv valve. on my 89 gt i used the supplied plug and plugged the smal hole and ran the bigger line to my intake like my old one. and why you're replacing the pcv, pull the screen out under the pcv and clean it or replace it.

yeppers, i recommend goin to the dealer, getting the correct valve, new grommet, and the metal screen that goes under the grommet and valve. do this, and forget about it for a couple years. less than 30 bucks when i did it.
there have been many complaints about the aftermarket valves not fitting snug. the grommets vulcanize and exacerbate this problem. and some forget to remove and clean or replace the screen, causing more problems. rather than play with it and have problems, i like to follow what i said and forget about it for a couple years.

you are right bout the generic valves. they fit many cars, hence the extra elbow, etc. i ran one and it sucked, so i went to the dealer (something i hate). i dont like to do (some) things half right. this is one of 'em.

I got the motocraft screen, grommet, and valve from late model resto for about $20.00, but I was ordering some other stuff anyway. Your best bet would be to just go to the dealership and pick them up if you are in a hurry for it. And as everyone else stated don't forget to clean or replace the screen under the valve! It gets extremely gunked up.

Looks like a trip to Ford in the morning, or a visit to 5.0resto. The weird thing is that I have not experienced any problems with the PCV but when I looked down there the dang thing did not have a grommet. Should the lack of a grommet cause any flow/pressure problems.

I thought these things were suppost to be tight.

The 5.0resto book says that 1987-1993 5.0 HO PCV is #EV98B, not the 2.3 PCV #EV127A.

since it wasnt sealed tight, it was likely just venting and sucking from the atmosphere. not great as its unfiltered and not metered. probably no great harm.
good choice. do it and forget.

So I went to Ford and picked up the same parts for $24!

Sometimes they do sell cheaper!

I am going to need to replace my PCV, but i have never heard of this filter or screen before?! What exactly is it and how do i change that out? I also found all the parts on 5.0 Resto but if they are cheaper at Ford then i might go there. Thanx

the screen is in the lower intake, under the pcv valve and grommet. i use some long needle nose pliers to get it out. remove the valve and grommet and you will see/feel it.
you can clean them (i.e., soak them overnight in solvent), but id rather spend a few bucks and do it right.
this part is often overlooked. once clogged, the pcv flow is severely compromised.

I got a deal, the parts are more expensive.

I totaled up the parts with tax over at 50resto, and the parts are cheaper there. But after a 2.01 tax, and 5.00 shipping it only saved me $1.30, so I bought them from Ford.

When I was there the guy cut me a "deal" and sold all three out the door for $24.00

I actually saved $3-4 dollars, and got them today.

Here is a picture of all three. You need these.

by the way, it's better to get the pcv valve at ford, but the rubber grommet that ford sells is actually the same as the one at advance for about a third of the price. same manufacturer, but different supplier. my cuz at ford told me this. also, everyone is right about the cheap pcv valves spend some money and get the one from ford, and always replace the screen

I have been using PCV #EV-140 in place of the 98-b from McCarville Ford and they say it flows better! Same outside dimensions and it fits snug! Prive is identical at $4.02. I have been replacing the valve and cleaning the screen every three years!

Got everything in place...

I pulled the old screen out, (it was not bad, but the replacement was new) cleaned up the hole a little with a paper towel, and then inserted the new screen, grommet, and new PVC. The old one is in great shape, so I am going to keep it in the new box for a backup.

The old used on seals far better than the "new" cheap one I purchased earlier from Autozone.

Now I have no idle problems, and a little more experience with this end of the car.

how can you see where the pvc valve screen and grommet are???? I can get the pcv valve out but I'd be dam'd if I can see-remove the grommet and screen.

Anyone know how to remove the pcv screen and grommet without seeing it. Its sure hard to get to.
