maybe it needs tobe changed? how many miles? PCV valves should be changed at @30k wth a genuine Ford one, not aftermarket

did you buy Ford/Motorcraft or some aftermarket one? what mods have you done? what year is the car? some later models had issues wth the PVC system.

I thought that oil coming out the pcv valve was a sign of excessive blowby caused by worn rings or a damaged piston.

sometimes but there are other reasons as well, thats why I asked about his mods. also the aftermarket PCV valves will cause more oil issues as the orifices inside maybe larger then Ford specs, causing more of a draw thru the crankcase.

If he replaces the pcv with an oem valve and the problem persists, what should be done next? Does the answer depend on what mods have been done? Are forced induction motors more apt to have this problem due to higher cylinder pressure?

It is common and not a problem if not excessive. You can build an oil seperator for about thirty bucks with Home Depot parts (do a search) or buy one for sixty from Steeda.

This is correct. Because of the way the valve cover is designed the 4.6's suck up a good bit of oil through the PCV

well this prob won't help your oiling problem but maybe it is "blow-by" from using the Nytrous. you might want to do a comp test or a leak-down test before going any further. now, point # 2. if your going to continue using the Nytrous, "you need to delete the PCV system" here is why and this does apply to dry kits and some s/c appts. on a "wet" Nytrous system, when you spray thru the intake all that oily residue that collects in the lower intake mixxes wth the in-comming fuel/air charge. now when that fuel/air mixture mixxes wth all that oil, it lowers the octane of the fuel and causes detonation and other engine related problems. so if your going to continue to spray, you need to delete that PCV system.
