ok, ive picked my heads now its time for the cam. what i understand is i want to pick a cam that doesnt exceed 220* duration, doesnt go below 114* lobe seperation angle, and for the lift to match the peak flow numbers for the head. is this correct to get the most out of my heads without getting idle issues? thanks.

wow only 220deg or duration my cam has 520*+ deg of lift and duration. what kinda heads are these? i wouldnt buy them they are very small what kinda power are you expecting outta these? i got a flowtech custom cam and am geting some of his afr185cc heads with valve seals and spring upgrades. you could give ed a call and he can burn you just the right cam to make the max hp for your combo.

mmmmmmm, 220 degrees of duration at .050" of lift. you must have misunderstood me. the lift on the cam that im looking at is .544,.560. i was wondering to keep my good idle characteristics, that all i would have to keep an eye on was the duration and the lobe seperation angle, is this right?

The general rule of thumb is that lower duration + high lift is good for a daily driven street car. Depending on what heads you got(which ones by the way?) and the intake you have, should give you some sort of idea on the numbers for the cam. Obviously you don't want to get heads that flow a lot, and a cam that doesn't take advantage of them. Likewise, you don't want a cam that is too much for the heads and intake either. That cam sounds like it would be good for a daily driver, but I am basically just taking an educated guess at it. If you can't afford to go the custom route, I would at least call up some cam companies and at least see what their technicians would recommend for your setup.

im wanting the edelbrock performers, and they flow the best between .5 and .6" of lift. i liked the lift this cam has, its close to the peak numbers, and i liked that the duration was low and the lobe seperation was high. the duration is 220 and 226 on the exhaust, and the lsa is 114. from what i gather in my searches, this cam would be ideal for power and idleing issues. just wanted the reinforcement from you guys.

Sounds like it should be a pretty good match, but then again, you are only taking our advice. Me not being a cam designer should show you that I am just making a good guess as to what will work well. The 114 LSA should have pretty good idle characteristics teamed up with the 220/226 duration. Everyone will give you their own opinion, but you should still go after the cam designers opinions(the ones that matter the most).
