People with Hatchbacks... WTF are these things?

Its where a cargo net attaches. There are little flastic T-hook things that screw down to those, and then there are 2 more attached near the rear on the side panels. Not all hatches have it. It was optional and I have only ever seen it on factory sunroof cars. Not sure why, because the sunroof cars have a strap in the hatch floor to hold the sunroof so it may just be a coincadence. Of all the hatch cars I have owned, my 92 LX sunroof car is the only one that has that, and the the net was still in the car when I bought it. I think that with most of the cars that had the net, you would probably find that the net is long gone.

My '88 with a sunroof doesn't have anything like that in it. I think the Cargo net only came on 91's and later. Not 100% sure.

In my hatch i have my sunroof hold down straps and that's all. I even still have the sunroof storage bag :D

I've got a cargo cover on my 90 LX 5.0.. Not a "net", but like a pull over cover.

You place the carpet over the top of them and screw the T-screw things to them. It holds your carpet down and serves some other purpose that I can't think of. I just screwed mine back in because I put the battery in the trunk today and had to take them off to take the carpet out. They are pretty fresh in my mind.

why would you take them out? if you do, you'll have a hole to see the ground through.

The reason i want to take them out is because im going to need all the flat space i can get.. im putting a small sub box, a nitrous bottle, and my battery back there. they are just taking up space, and when i redo the carpet back there, i dont want to have to cut holes if i dont have to as well... thanks for all the responses. im probably just going to cut them off flush with the floor and not just leave them as exposed holes.
