Hello all,
I've been looking in Modular powerhouse and Modular depot and it looks like they no longer carry cams for our engines. (or was I not looking hard enough?)

And I found an alternative to the conventional VT and Comp, if any of you are interested.
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=CRN-379611&autoview=sku
I'm guessing this is an equivalent of the VT stage1/Comp 262?
How come I never hear of anyone using Crane? Are they crappy?

EDIT: never mind, I found VT's website and I can get cams straight from them.
And is it true that one could gain 25-30whp from a stage 1 cam swap?

You can still get Custom grinds from MPH, you just have to contact them and they will help you out.

What are your goals? You gonna stay n/a or are you planning a s/c or turbo in the future?

I plan to stay NA. I don't have anything against superchargers/nitrous, it's just that I don't need crazy amounts of power and I'll be happy with modest NA power.

Okay, I'll call MPH and ask about that.

Yeah ok..... Boy does that sounds familiar. That's what we all said....at first.

Don't get me wrong, N/A is good, but in these days of EVOs, Supras, Subarus, Vettes, Camaros, Turboed 4cyl cars, and even luxury 4 door cars.....N/A sometimes ain't gonna get the job done. You're gonna find yourself getting stomped by a SUV with kids in the back playing PS2, wife on the passenger's side, and the trunk full of Walmart bags and they are going to be pulling away from you while you redline every gear you have....

PS..By the time you throw on every bolt on in the book, you're going to spend about the same amount of money as it costs to get a S/C, but you'll probaby have less HP from the bolt-ons, than the S/C can give you.

My Jeep is almost as fast as a stock GT. I raced a stock looking one with my wife in the passenger seat and my air on and he was BARELY pulling on me.

Funny you say that . I know a few Cherokee's that with a few mods outrun GT's all the time. The 4.0 can actually be made to go really fast.

Yeah, but i told myself that i would try and stay away from the temptation of modding the Jeep and focus my money on the stang. Although i did want to lift it, but seeing how its the wife's ride, she squashed that idea...oh well, more money for the stang ;-)

But to 40th GT, just like everyone else said...Once you get all the possible bolt-ons your car will still be "slow". You'll want more power, run faster 1/4 times, beat more cars, etc...Its just the name of the game.

I was all about more power when I got started on my car. Life was centered on the 1/8 mile drag strip. Now that I got into autocross, HP isn't everything. Hence, I'm also considering VT Stage 1s. It appears to keep low end power and not have it all at the top.

... subscribing.

That's true. Cadillac is dropping LS2's into their Escalades and CTS's (400hp), so NA just aint gonna cut it.

But hey, if I have some bolt ons on top of a supercharger I know I'll have gobs of power. As long as my mods aren't conflicting with FI, I should be fine IMO. (i.e. no underdrive pullies or 4.10s)
The last thing I'd do is give up my GT for a 4V. I want to make this 2V into a beast.

Are EVO's and Supras that fast? I thought stock ones are merely mid 13 second cars. I could be wrong. Anyone have a reliable list of quarter mile times for various cars?

Besides the usual SRT-4's, Mazdaspeed 3's, and WRX's, what turbo 4 cyl's are you speaking of?

Beware of those pesky SRT8 Jeeps. Those boats can run high 12s, and do 0-60 in about 4.9 seconds...BONE STOCK!

There was a time when I wanted only 300hp., then 400hp, then I decided to skip 500. Now I want 750-800!

NEVER assume any car is bone stock. If they are willing to race you, chances are they aren't! And we all know how well SRT4s respond to mods. It doesn't take much to make those cars run 12s. Same goes for Evos, Supras, and most cars with factory FI.

There are alot of alternative cams to the more common few. Crane cams aren't as aggressive comparing their stage to another company's stage. Crower stage 2's are more aggressive than Crane's stage 3. You don't see people using Crane because they haven't been out that long. Other companies that make modular cams include Modmax, Hitech, and Anderson Ford.

You can run a blower with N/A cams or blower cams on N/A and get good numbers but they wont be as effective as running cams made for your application.

Speaking of Jeeps, you know whats sad?

The little (well, big) 4.0 sitting in my Cherokee can be bored/stroked to a full 5.0 liters!!!!! But out 4.6's can reach that basically as a maximum. WTF...?

Tractor motor FTW!!!

I have Comp 262's in my car...added 30HP on a conservative tune because I didn't want to push it with the high mileage I have.

That's very impressive. Did you have to do anything else, like get valve springs and/or degreed the cams?
