I just hooked up this new 16" perma cool electric fan, the only thing is that the wires running off the engine are red for the negative and black for the positive according to the manual. Even though this is opposite of what standard colors are I went ahead and hooked up the fan according to the instructions. Now the fan is spinning backwards tho, working as a pusher fan when I have it mounted behind the radiator in puller config. My question is could I just switch the red/black wire and have the fan spin the correct direction or will this fry the motor?

I think I would switch the wires, isn't the fan made to be mounted either way?

N/M I went ahead and switched the red/black wires and now it is running the correct way

Yeah it is designed so that it can also be used as a pusher fan, but you are supposed to take the fan off and turn that around

I'll throw my electrical engineer hat on for a second and say that your solution is fine and should cause no damage to the fan.

i dont know much about them but see if the blades are directional. ie it curves kindof like an airfoil and leads to the back. if so i would try flipping the fan because you probably arent getting as much airflow as you can.
