Pertronix/stock tach/resistor wire help?

I have previously installed a Pertronix (the first generation) Ignitor and a Flamethrower coil. That setup didn't like the resistor wire from the ignition switch, so I bypassed it.
I would now like to install the factory tach that I acquired (not OE on my car) and had repaired and calibrated. Obviously I don't want to blow it up...so how can/should I connect it? I think that it's a relatively simple wired-in-series deal with something, but I'm 100% sure it's that wire from ignition to coil and less sure that it will handle the un-resisted voltage.
Anyone have any pointers to keep my tach healthy?

Thanks in advance!

If you don't get any other help I can help you tomorrow. I have to leave for the night but I I the dash out of my gt and I can look at how I did it. I tapped into the resistor wire where it hooks up to the tach. I think the 12 volts is supplied to the tach and then the resistor wire runs to the coil. Well on second thought that may not be right but I do know I tapped the resistor wire at the tach and left the resistor wire in place. I can check it out tomorrow. John

OK, I checked and I dip tap into the resistor wire where it hooks up to the tach. The 12 volts is supplied to the tach from the ignition switch. The other wire on the tach is the resistor wire about 2 foot long that leads to a connector an then on the the negative side of the coil. I left the resistor wire in place and just tapped into it on both ends so with electricity taking the path of least resistance it just bypasses the resistor wire. So to make a long story short, the tach does not need the resistor wire. Just hook it up straight. John
