Im sitting here thinking why in the hell would I buy pi cams to go with pi heads? If I have to put in the cams why not put bad ass ones in? I buy the pi heads because they are 300 bux on ebay. Any one have anything to say about this and what sort of skill does it take to put in cams?

put them in with the heads off the car and it's easy as changing the valve springs and bolting the new cams in. On the car it becomes much more difficult-esspecially with new valvesprings, which are recommeded with the aftermarket cams.

The PI cams are pretty good and can be picked up new from the Ford dealer for around $200 for the pair. Aftermarket cams will run you $600 or more and you can still make a lot of power with the stock PI cams. It just depends what you want to get out of it...

Installing the cams isn't too difficult, but if you don't have the engine in the safe position (45 degrees CCW from TDC) you can bend some valves while bolting the cams (or heads) in. Also, make sure that the engine is in the safe position before attempting to rotate the cams. Good luck...

Newbee, please post a specific Jegs link to a set of cams for a 4.6 SOHC Mustang engine for 200-300 dollars. I will bet you your car that you are looking at single cams for 302 engines or SBCs.

That apples and oranges. Buy your X/H pipe whereever you want to. Jegs. Summit. Brothers Performance. Latemodel Restoration. Partshopper on Stangnet. The Classifieds.

If you are going through the trouble of switching heads put better cams in it. Comp or VT. Just do not go too radical or you will have PTV clearances issues do to the increase of compression. You will see a big difference in performance if you go with the better cams ( around 20 rwhp) The cost will be around 500-600 for the cams.

Get a set of Comp XE270AHs or VT Stage IIs. I have the Comps and made the numbers in my sig. With your ealier shortblock with PI heads, you'll have a higher compression ratio and could see even better numbers.

if you read those cams in jegs and summit are for pushrod motors. remember when you get cams for your GT you get 2 cams not 1. also for a good quality pushrod cam you are paying more than $200 plus you get lifters, which you dont get with 4.6 cams.
