PI Motor in a 1996 GT

Planning to replace the motor on a 1996 GT and I figured why not go with a PI motor. What would be needed to to put a 99+ motor into a 96 car?

well you would need the motor itself. if you want the COP (coil on plug) ignition then you will need the 99+ pcm and wirring.

Yeah, I was thinking I was going to need the wiring too. Any way to do it with out the coil on plug ignition? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

yeah without the COP ignition you can use the coils and wires from the 96 motor.. and the 96 pcm too. you will need a tune but the swap is straight forward.

While a tune is always good, if you do it right you can get around without doing it. I did the swap and I know that you will need, if you don't get the intake with the motor you have to get the pi intake that has a hole drilled into it for you temp sensor we have two and the 2000+ cars have one. Your coil packs brackets are gonna need to be swaped and the passneger side one doesn't really fit exactly right but it will fit and be stable enough to drive. Ummm lets see there is a few more things but not much. When I did mine I started some threads just do a search and you can see what I went through. It was so worth it in the long run. I can add boost later with out too much worry like I would with a PI head swap.

it is a straight forward swap. i really really recomened doing this if you have a 96-98

i am pretty sure you don't need any of the donor cars harness either. off the top of my head the only differences i can think of is the COP and the earlier 4.6 had two coolant temp sensors. and thats easyenough too fix.. just build a t fitting for both sensors into the one port for the sensor in the PI manifold

My 96 motor's alternator had two connectors the oil pressure (if it is that) connector was different. Return style vs returnless fuel system. I'vtryed the T fiitting and had over heat problems IMO you should get the T-stat housing drilled and wielded for the other housing which is what I'm gonna do.
