Pic request

Well, not as of yet. So until it sells I am going forward as though I am keeping it. I've tracked it a couple of times with the IRS and I'll tell you what, it was a totally different car out there. Still a mustang, but a much improved mustang.

I'm actually thinking about doing some sort of hybrid like a 2nd gen rx7 with either a 5.0 or LS1 in it. 2700 lbs, 300 rwhp, and a good suspension would make for fun times.
 
Great to hear about the IRS. I may have to consider doing that conversion one day.

You could always just do what my friend is doing and build a track car from scratch. He was going to go the hybrid route but found that working around the factory parts was too difficult. The hardest part really is the body. He's trying to make it not only street legal but to look like a "Daytona"? spec racer.
It's a mid engine with a ZZ4 350 with fuel injection, a 911 transaxle and willwood brakes. Should weigh in at 2,000lbs.

maybe I should start looking around for 2003 cobra owners that want a full GW rear end with stainless exhaust? I'm thinking the 31 spline rear is the only way to go right?
 
Well, you have a nicely sorted rear suspension as it is, so I'm not sure how worth it you'd think it is.

The 03 setup is definitely the best as it already has 355s, stronger halfshafts, IRS brace, and relocated inner tie-rod ends. But a 99-01 would be fine also, and get you most of the way there. As far as the diff goes, I don't think you're putting out enough power to really worry too much about getting a 99 vs a 03 IRS. If you were drag racing, maybe, but not as it is now.

Going from the stockish solid axle to the IRS I noticed the following.

1) The car hooks MUCH better in 1st gear. I'm willing to bet I could knock a tenth or two off my 60' times.

2) The car rides MUCH better than it did with the solid axle.

3) It handles better in every way. Better turn in, much better corner exit, much more predictable.

4) As a negative, it does wheel hop some, but nothing bad at all.

5) It also adds 85 lbs to the rear over a stock setup, but it might be a wash compared to a TA/PHB setup.

My car is well sorted and predictable now but didn't you get these improvements over an MM setup? I'm just thinking the next step. I would really like to have the car feel more like the LS on bumpy streets. Even though the LS with it's all season tires will squeal and break loose when the mustang wouldn't on a big curving on ramp. On surface streets that are all beat up I'll take a turning yellow that I wouldn't in the Mustang.

Reality is I all ready spent $1,500 this year on the car with the motor and having the stud mount setup put in. I think a high speed fan override switch and I'm doen for the year anyway.

Ash, I didn't have an MM rear suspension. I just had bilsteins, MM swaybar, BBK LCAs (ick), and eibach springs.

I now have 03 cobra IRS, MM subframe bushings, 03 cobra bilsteins, H&R race springs.

Interesting. Because over stock I got all the benefits you are saying with about half the weight penalty and not too bad of a ride.
I'd be curious to see/follow the car on track.
Well at least for as long as I could since you'd probably beat me to turn one by 10 seconds or more.

Yeah they are not what I would call driveable. Although I did drive home on them (It was a 2 hands on the wheel type of trip).

Kevin mentioned he would be happy to get what I did for the 99 wheels, but I am sure he is nogotiable. $300.00 obo

It's tough to say. I think it's pretty widely known that a TA/PHB setup will outperform a stock IRS setup. However, I think the jury is still out on modded IRS setups.

Either way, I'm not very fast at the track, so you should probably be able to keep up as long as you are sub 1:50s. Also, we could do lead/follow too.

When are you heading out next? I was thinking about doing the alfa day on the 5th, but I was debating taking the WRX.

we'll see about that after i get the proper rear and front spings on ;) right brian? no more hand movement... up and down... ehem :)

but anyway... i think the irs with proper new braces/springs/bushings should be perfect
