$3995 for the Hellion kit now. Fit and finish is better on the Hellion kit and it uses better components, so you have to ask yourself if it's worth the $1300 extra. I would vote yes after seeing both go on, personal opinion though.

I've got about 2100-2200$ into my Hellion kit, it's really worth buying used.

It should be the same as the regular system I thought?

The basic system doesn't come with the ceramic coating and has 2.5 inch cold side piping. I figure I may as well just do the 3 inch upgrade now so i don't have to worry later. I may get the hot side piping and do the cold side myself later. I have time to figure this all out. Just don't know if I want to deal with the headache of building the cold side or just shell out the coin to get the whole kit.

92GreenGT, can I get some up close pictures of your engine bay from different angles?

Any word about treadstone kits? They are pretty cheap, but cheap can never mean good.

I was referring to the basic system as in the Hellion Heat System should be the same as the original fox Hellion kit in how it's layed out and installed. I have the original Hellion kit on my car, no complaints.

I've heard people commenting completely opposite on the subject.

As for componets...with the exception of the turbo, what else is better?

You may want to ask yourself if you actually need the 3" cold side. Just something to keep in mind, but the 2.5" will easily support far more horsepower than the block (650rwhp+). As for the ceramic coating...for some it's a necessity...and for others not. My black twin headers from B&G came with a simple high temp coating and it's been holding up quite well.

Who has said completely opposite on the subject that actually has experience with both kits? I'm as fair as they come when giving honest opinions about things like that.

The kit differences:

Hellion uses stainless steel for everything, minus the headers(mild steel just like B&G) Hellion also has polished piping where visible under the hood. The only gripe I have with the Hellion kit is the crappy bypass valve it comes with, you basically have to upgrade that. What's the deal with the B&G branded wastegate and blow off valve in the B&G kits? I don't remember seeing that or reading anything about it, are they tial knockoffs with his name on it or what's the deal(if you know?) I guess depending on the situation with the "B&G" wastegate and bov, the turbonetics pieces in the hellion kit could be better. The differences aren't huge there is a difference, some people could care less about what the piping is made out of, so again it comes down to personal prefernce. Another thing about the B&G kits is do they come with the Ypipe to hook it up to a factory location catback? My buddies did not, and I didn't see anything about it on their site.

-Edit-
I agree with Millhouse on the cold side upgrade. It's really not needed and the bigger cold side can slow spool up. The ceramic coating is a good option if you can swing it but not super important to have.

Hmmmm, maybe I will go with the 2.5 inch cold side then, saves me a couple hundred bucks then. Thanks for the input again. Do you have pics of your kit? I've always liked the hellion kits, but b&g's price is outstanding. Well see when the time comes.

Yeah, I would go 2.5" and save the money or put the money towards paying for the coating.

A few more things I was thinking about the B&G kit vs the Hellion kit. The B&G doesn't have a downpipe that comes apart right after the turbo so the plug changes are a bitch with the 3.5" DP. Also, does the B&G kit come ready to install a MAF on? Based on their site it doesn't come with the correct silicone/tbolts and it has to be cut to install a MAF(based on looking at pics). My buddies car wasn't using the MAF(AEM EMS) so I don't know if it's an option when ordering or what. So yeah, there are differences between the B&G and Hellion and I do believe the Hellion is well worth the extra money if you plan to drive the car more like a street car. I also think the other kits such as the B&G, HP, etc are a better setup to make power compared to the Hellion. So there are drawbacks to each of them, you just have to weigh out the pros vs cons to see which route you want to go with.

I do have a pic of the Hellion kit installed on my car. Here is a pic of the Hellion kit and my old DIY kit, the engine bay is about to be cleaned up, holes filled and painted when the new engine goes in.

Hellion(I've got a black heat blanket on there now but no new pics, I recommend you getting one also)

Do you think I will be able to use all the factory front accessories? I dont want to swap out anything.

The B&G just requires the pipe from the intercooler to be sectioned out to get a MAF in there. Hopefully mine will be safe to run as a blow thru.

Yeah you shouldn't have to change anything. If it was me, I would put one of the March alternator brackets on like in the pic of my DIY kit. Really frees up a lot of room and makes everything looks much cleaner, IMO.(It also moves the alt over more away from the turbo compared to the stock ford piece)

That's what I figured about the MAF stuff, does it not come with the correct tbolt clamps or silicone to use a MAF? Running the car will be fine in blow through, just make sure you get a tune, it's not worth spending all that time and money just to have the car drive terrible or run rich becuase of trying to run without the tune. Good luck with the build.

Yea, I would get march alt bracket but my girl bought me a nice tensioner pulley and would feel bad getting rid of it lol (damn guilty consience). Plus I already spent the coin for a new belt and everything. I think the B&G set up is how Im gonna go, just cut a section out of the intake pipe for the MAF and get the silicone sleeves on my own.

I'm definatly getting it tuned, my buddies next door neighbor use to work for SLP and does fox mustang tunes on the side for a very reasonable price and you get a tweecer out of the deal. He was one of the guys who developed the SLP 575hp package for the 03-04 cobras. He just got sick of driving an hour and a half to work everyday.

Off the top of my head….I can’t recall who, but I do remember reading several threads over on tubomustangs with some comparisons.

Stainless steel is nice an shiny…but for those who don’t care or prefer fully coated pipes throughout….stainless is not necessary.

As for the BOV’s and wastegates…If I had to guess they would probably be custom TIAL units made for B&G. If you purchase them separately…they are not cheap. Tial knockoffs (I have one) do not look anything like the quality pieces shown in their pictures. Here is a thread showing the wastegate…. BG CUSTOM TURBO 38mm Wastegate Big Thumb's up!

As for the Y-pipe, I can’t imagine that it doesn’t come with one. Everyone I have seen running them has it tied into their h-pipe and is running a full exhaust. I wouldn’t assume anything however…and anyone interested should probably inquire.

Yeah, I would go 2.5" and save the money or put the money towards paying for the coating.

I really don’t think plug changes are as big of a deal as you describe. A friend of mine had one, and they weren’t bad to get at. Sure you may need a socket extension and a spark plug socket…but they come out and go in just fine.

As for the MAF, MAC'n89Blckstng touched on the subject. With so many of us running MAP based systems, many prefer the straight pipe without a spot for the MAF sensor. It probably keeps costs down as it eliminates the need for extra equipment/processes. I’m sure for a very small cost they would be more than happy to cut a spot open for someone though.

As for the price difference…really, the only advantage I see that hellion has is the better turbo, shiny tubing and the addition of the removable downpipe. Both would be sufficient for a daily driver….and both would most likely make comparable numbers. That extra $1500+ could go a loooooong way however when you still need an upgraded fuel system and a tune.

Your right, those are the advantages plus not having to cut a spot for the MAF and order silicone/tbolts for your MAF. Realistically I would say the difference is about $1100-1200 instead of the "1500+". The turbo is a big chunk of that, the rest are just bonuses. That being said, I would buy a B&G kit without hesitation.

BTW, Mac'nBlack don't get caught up in seeing these 2800$ prices for the B&G kit. Remember to budget in your fuel system, tune, gauges and def check out a heat blanket for the hotside of the turbo.

-Edit-
Just add more fuel to the fire, if you're worried about a grand making or breaking a deal then you don't need a turbomustang becuase it'll suck a lot more money than that from you.

IMHO, the turbo is the biggest difference. It’s a higher quality unit for sure.

There is no doubt that it will suck a lot more money out of you….but as I said, that $1250 can go a long way towards a fuel system, a tune or possibly a stand-alone. Not everyone has the same budget…hence the abundance of turbo kit manufacturers.

Well, I already have a 255 lph fuel pump and an adjustable regulator, will be putting some 42 lbers in there. Does anyone think I should get a boost-a-pump? My buddy just put 475 at the wheels with a procharger and a stock fuel system. What other costs should I keep in mind?

You should be fine with the 42's and the 255 intank. Do you have a MAF yet? I'd buget enough to get:

42's
Turbo kit(+whatever options your planning on)
maf(if you don't already have it)
silicone/tbolts for MAF
chip/tune
heat blanket for exhaust housing(can come later but it really helps)
good catback(aka straight through design)

Good thing about going with a turbo kit is that if you have any exhaust mods already(headers and midpipe) or a CAI you can sell those to put towards the kit.

I have a 75 mm MAF for 19's but my tuner said he can change it for the 42's

Looks like all I need is the 42's, the kit, silicone and a tune. I've always been a big fan of MAC so I think I will be getting another one of them, (yea I know its not straight thru). I have a MAC cat back now thats old and a little dirty but I think I'll be able to sell it for a little bit. I figured since the rest of the car is going to be new stuff I might as well get a new cat back as well. I also have some nice stainless bassani equal lengths I'll be able to sell. Again, thanks for all the advice, you've been a real big help.

I'm glad you spoke with your tuner already about that, that's exactly why I asked. Once he inputs the correct transfer function for the MAF in the tune and changes the injector settings you'll be ready to rock and roll. Just having a good game plan before diving head first will really help you get on the right foot and stay there. PM me anytime, I'll do my best to help or get you in contact with someone who can.
