cant seem to be able to rmove my pilot bearing. what do i need, what do i do?

I used this method on the past and it works everytime...a puller works the best.....but try this...

find a dowel large enuf to slide thru the bearing...tighter the fit, the better...once you have that...take a grease gun and fill all inside the bearing...take your dowel and drive it in.....its called hydraulic compression..it'll push the mother right out....you may have to fill it and re-try a few times...but the mother will come out....

andy's way works......i did it ......took a while though........


the alternative is to go to auto zone get the slide hammer tool......and they have an attachment that screws onto it.......and then you use the slide hammer to pull it out.....takes like 7-8 good wacks'...........pulls it right out though...........

Best thing is it is free....you pay for the tool up front and when you return it they give you 100% or your money back..

Slide hammer with the puller attachment works great. The main problem some people have is getting the puller's arms on the right location.

There are two grooves cut into the pilot bearing. These are the grooves that you need to get the arms of the puller onto.

The grooves are opposite each other. Mine were at 3 and 9 o'clock. Once I got the arms in the grooves, it came out like butter.

When I didn't have them in the right place, I just destroyed the pilot bearing and didn't make any progress.

Take a wild guess what the part is called?????

It's a "Pilot Bearing Puller Attachment", part no. 27059 from autozone. Loaner tool which you get your money back.

What were you trying to use before with the slide hammer???

i didnt try anything, i said that i have a slide hammer. the only actual tool suggested was a puller but im glad to know there are alternatives like the attachment you mentioned. thanks for the help.

I practically destroyed mine trying to use a slide hammer without the correct attatchment.....ended up using an air chisel to cut it out.
