The day is finally here!
Each of my girls has a car for a different category:

The Red car on the right for speed, and the Mach 1 Mustang next to it for design.

Ill post the results tonight, then maybe throw some pics up after that.

Those are all some of the best looking pinewood cars I have seen.

Back in the day when I did mine it looked like a 10 year old cut it out... :-(

A lot of other community type places do it too. I did it in the boyscouts but I know the methodist church in my town runs one as well.

I think the parents have more fun then the kids do!

There is a Christian org. called "AWANA"s It is kinda like scouts (games, events, meetings, dues, etc) except it is Christian-based, and obviously coed.

They meet on Wed when the worship service is going on...they have 3 age groups, and it is from 3yo to 6th grade. The 2 older groups do the Pinewood, the younger group does the sailboats.
The OLDEST group which both my girls are in, have their race tonight, and this is the age group that goes to states if they win.

Last year, my daughter got 1st for design and 2nd in state (actually half the state), but that car is not pictured.

I currently have the far left red car and the curved blue car with the flames up for sale at Ebay.

Im currently building a SPonge-Bob car to auction also.

Thanks

Ahhhh..ok, now it makes sense

I thought this was the traditional cub/boy scouts where girls aren't allowed to be members until they are 14 and enter "venture scout" age

OK...NOW Im REALLY Pissed

Ok, so the red one wins EASILY in speed...won the final heat for first place by 2 FULL car lengths.

NOW, they go and recruit 2 OLD FREAKING ladies to judge the design.

MACH 1 - SECOND PLACE

take a look at the car that they judged first over the Mach:

This car has a nice coat of paint and a sunglass lens as the windshield...looks like a freaking bobsled...I talked to the dad that made it, and he said it took him like an hour

If that's not bad enough, take a look at the car that they judge 3rd place...the only pic I have of it (because it was really fugly) is this one:

It's a freaking lavendar car with some stickers....So OK, here is a car that a little girl decorated herself...they judge that one SIXTH place

My daughter's red first place speed car got 4th for design.

The only positive about the Mach getting second is that it still goes to states like the first place car...Once there, the REAL judges will be judging.

They will laugh that lavendar car right out of the room

Anyway Just needed to vent.

BTW....my Awana Parents car won first also :SNSign:

So for the night:

2-first's speed
1-second design
1-fourth design

As much as your Mach is waaaay better; if I were the judge, I would be reluctant to put it on the top with the suspicion that they got plenty of help from the parent(s). BUT on the other hand, when I was a kid, I had some cases where I wouldn't win becuase they thought my parents did something for me when that wasn't true, so I guess it's six to one half dozen.

3 things:
1. The state winners are ALWAYS that nice looking, so you know it was mainly the parents.

2. There's no WAY you could look at the winning car and think a kid did it, by the quality of the paint job.

3. Your point would be valid if the Strawberry Shortcake car had WON. The paint job is obviously a kids job, but the stickers and little head in the car made it look WAY nicer than that lavendar piece of crap.

Thanks

Hey RC .... my church does the Awana program as well. We don't do these competitions, though.

Congrats on the 4 cars that did well. You're the "John Force" of Pinewood Derby now, lol.

IT WAS THREE CARS!!, (4 trophies)

Why dont YOU get the pinewood program going?

This is only the 3rd year we've done this....they used to do it a long time ago, then the new commanders didnt continue it until a new group again came in and started it back up...Now We have TWO legitimate state contenders.

Sorry .... 3 cars!!! LOL.

It's a rather small church & not a whole lotta kids there ... so I don't think it would do so well .... but I will make mention of it to the youth leaders.
