Ping Ping Ping, all i hear is friggin Ping

sorry to bump this but i am still having a problem.

i cleaned the MAF and it was still pinging. I figured it would.

Just today i went to OUtragous, and had them check my timing to see if it was ever messed with and he told me that it was set at stock. He said that he wasn't going to mess with it. So i went and bought the Downs ford tune up kit, and a oil filter. $88.99, which i thought was pretty good. I got choice of wire colors(red), and a bad attitude from the parts guy.

This should do the trick right? Where do i go to from here if it continues.

Also, one of the guys at outragous mustangs told me that i should never ever have to clean my MAF, unless i was running no filter threw a mudpit, and not to do it again bc i could do more damage then good

Did you actually remove the MAF from the housing, use a q-tip w/ a solvent and clean it that way??? Or did you just spray something inside the MAF?

The maf may not be your problem. It may be your ECT or IAT sensor. I would replace both and see what happens. They degrade over time.

What did they replace when they did the "tune up"? Did the replace the plugs/wires/cap/rotor?

Your car shouldn't ping on 87. Until you get it to stop, you haven't solved the problem. Running higher than 87 kills power, and is just a bandaid for the problem.

You should also check your fuel pressure, remove and inspect all vacuum lines (some at vacuum tree on top of intake manifold elbow (near EGR), some under the upper intake manifold, and lastly some at the vacuum tree at the d-side corner of the firewall), then test the vacuum.

That should keep you busy for a while....lol.

One question. I forgot to ask. Does it ping at wide open throttle, part throttle or both? If it's part throttle only, then you need to look at the O2 sensors and ignore everything I said above. If you aren't sure, go out and test it on a black stretch of road.

i just sprayed a little solvent in the maf and then whiped it down real good and spray a little compressed air in there and that was it.

I also did the tune up kit today. Runs like a champ. Took it for a ride after, and what a diffrence. And tonight, dam. It was cool and had real crisp air. So the car ran even better then today. THis is the best the car has run since i owned it for a year. should of done this a year ago.

I looked at all the recepits and found that the guy change all this stuff before it i bought it but it wasn't good quailty stuff.

The kit was Downs ford and had Wires, plugs, pcv valve, fuel filter, cap. rotor, and i opted for the oil filter and oil add on. Total came to 88.99 which was pretty dam good i thought. the oil was 15w-50 mobil 1. I thought that was going to be to think but seems to run well with it in there.

The only thing i gotta do is put the toyo proxys in the car that have been sitting in my garage since april.
