Ok, when i got on my mustang today i heard some pinging....i assume that its from TOO much timing. How do i fix it? or any other ideas of what it might be?

I have a 04 GT vert, with a CAI, 70mm T/B, Plenum, mac pro chamber, mac cat back, aluminum D/S, 3.73's and a diablo predator with a custom tune.

I was thinking about taking my predator and taking out some of the timing. Do you think this will fix it?

Also i think that my IAC valve is bad becuase i'm having some idle issues like other people on this site...could that have anything to do with it?

Ohh yeah and it only happens under full throttle and it seems to happen more/louder in high gears like 4th and 5th especialy 5th gear.....

Anyone have this happen to them or any suggestions?

I lost my diablo manual, can anyone tell me how to take some timing out with the predator?

So your idle issue only happens under full throttle? Weird. I'd remove the IAC and clean it first and see what happens, before I replaced it.

Anyway, for your pinging issue, I'm going to assume that you have done the basics like running premium gas, from a brand name station in the car if you've bumped the timing.

If you get a bad batch of gas, which can happen, you may have to back the timing off a little bit, or do something to bring the octane rating of the tank up, like put some race fuel in, or some octane booster.

I don't know offhand how you change predator settings, but I would think if it's just started recently, it's probably something that happened recently.

The higher gears put the engine under much more load anyway (4th, 5th, etc) than say 1st would, and are much more apt to make the car ping if you get on it at lower RPM's.

my bad, when i said it only happens under full throttle i ment the pinging, not the idle issue...sorry for the confusion.

hmm ok...yeah i have run premium fuel in her since day one and i was thinking about adding some octane boost tomorrow to see if it helps.

I just thought it was weird that it pinged more in a higher gear than a lower gear. You would thinking if the timing is off, that it would be consistant, ya know?

Some people report less detonation after using SeaFoam to clean out their engine... You could try that.

That's probably what I'm experiencing also. Under acceleration some times, there is a pinging noise that sounds like the seatbelt chime, only it's not as loud...

Is it hotter than usual where you are right now? Heat and load play a big part in detonation. If it's detonating regularly you show back the timing out a degree or two. You won't lose much power.

ok so hear is my update. i just read your post and you are right...it is hotter than normal.

so the other night after i first posted this i took out my predator, hooked it up and took my g/f with me for a spin....as we found out. when i pushed the car kind of hard for about 30-60 secs, the temp went up REAL quick and the detonation came back....but if i slowed down and let it cool back down to like 188 or so, the detonation would go away....so what i think is. During the day when its REALLY hot...like 100...105 etc...and i have the A/C on...thats whats causing the pinging. Cuse its never done this before....

In a nut shell, you were right. I just wish i had read your post before i went out for a spin...i would have saved some gas and time!

well...thanks again SN :SNSign:

and thanks tweekedGT

ohh hey, will i get much more power if i max out or advance the timing on my predator?

Could that hurt my motor?

Maybe i should wait till fall or winter, till ie gets a little cooler? hmmm

Try a cooler thermostadt and adjust your electric fan temp. switch. It worked for me.
