8.8 Traction-Lok 4.11. Is this too much backlash? The clutches are worn, that I know since sometimes it peels one wheel even on straight launch. I can live with worn clutches but it was making some clunking back there when I was backing into a spot.

Pulled the cover. No excessive play in ring & pinion backlash. Most play is from diff gears, side gears and axle splines. Also retrieved this. Looks like chunks of disintegrated clutch disc or maybe shim.

Ring and pinion looks good. Don’t see any visible damage. Gotta disassemble of course

More than likely the ears off the clutch discs.

Correct. Metals and frictions seized together and sheared tabs.

Got the new diff setup and ready to put in. Check out this cut down and polished ring gear that’s in this car. I don’t know who, what, why but it was in the car when I bought it. My guy who supplied the diff and swapped the ring over said stamps on the back of the gear were Ford Motorsport. So someone trimmed and polished this thing.

My buddy hooked me up good though. Gave me a full assembled posi carrier that had been previously freshened with new clutches, swapped the ring over, pressed on new carrier bearings...$140
