I am putting new gears in my car and I cant find an inch pound torque wrench to set the bearing preload. Is there any other way to set it?Is there any other tool I can use to set the preload?

do it by hand. dont put in the seal quite yet. if you have a new crush sleeve it may take qite a bit of torque to set it in. but anyway lube the races, and turn it down till the bearings just touch, spin it, if theres no resistance at all its not tight enough yet, be careful if youovertighten it the crush sleeve wont be strong enough. the end result you want is to be just a little drag about like turning over a slightly used waterpump not quite new.when its set take it off with a bar type torque wrench remember the torque it takes to take it off. insert your seal then torque it down to what it took to take it off. and use locktight the red stuff. a slightly tight bearing is better than a slightly loose one.

Asford form "Fargo" is right on!! crush the crush sleeve and then remove the companion flange install the seal and then do it again!! a slight drag like he said!! and the drag should good and steady... ( actually I have and otheres as well, set it up "pretty tight" esp if you re-use the original crush!!)

just me...........................
